Description
Book Introduction
When we travel or go to an unfamiliar place, we look at a map.
How inconvenient would it be without a map? You'd probably get lost often and avoid unfamiliar places.
Kim Jeong-ho was the first person to accurately draw a map of our country.
At a time when there was no systematic knowledge or scientific equipment, he completed the Daedongyeojido by studying maps and walking on foot throughout his life.
The maps he created were used not only in governing the country but also in all military operations.
Kim Jeong-ho was born the son of a merchant during the Joseon Dynasty.
Because he was not a nobleman, it was difficult for him to study properly and he could not become an official.
But as he looked at the picture map he happened to get his hands on, he had a dream.
It was to ‘draw a map that could see the whole world at a glance.’
And I've been working my whole life to make that dream come true.
I constantly looked at books about maps and drew maps in my own way.
To create a more accurate map, I personally traveled the entire country on foot.
The Daedongyeojido map he created after much hardship remains as a precious heritage of our country today.
Let's take a look at the great life of Kim Jeong-ho, who, despite poverty, devoted all his passion to achieving his dream.

Publisher's Review
An excellent children's book selected by Boy's Korea Daily and the Children's Culture Promotion Association!
A must-read biography for children to develop their character and form their values!
Biographies of great people are not simply about the lives and achievements of historical figures.
It is a complex intertwining of various elements, including a person's thoughts and philosophy, as well as the efforts he made to achieve his dreams.
As children read biographies, they develop their character, expand their thinking, and become more mature.
On the one hand, you can gain extensive knowledge of history because you can indirectly experience various eras.
The lives of great people who overcame trials and tribulations to achieve great things are told in this fascinating fairy tale!
The "Textbook for Lower Grades: Great People" series focuses on entertainingly capturing the lives of great people who overcame hardships and achieved great accomplishments through passion and effort.
Rather than simply summarizing the content in chronological order like existing biographies, it was adapted into a fairy tale to make it easier to understand and empathize with.
We invited 53 of Korea's best children's literature writers to explain historical events from a child's perspective and structure the story in a lively language, so even children who are not yet proficient in reading will be able to enjoy it.
The introduction of the book provides guidance for parents and teachers on how to guide children in reading, and the book ends with a chronology, allowing readers to see the footsteps of great people at a glance.
We also included a timeline of Korean and world history so that you can see the flow of history at a glance and understand which great people lived in each era and what major events occurred.
Throughout the book, there are photos and information about objects, historical sites, and tourist attractions closely related to people or anecdotes, allowing you to gain a wealth of knowledge.
A rich curriculum aligned with the 8th curriculum, enhanced by the participation of various experts!
Spacing and spelling are based on elementary school Korean language textbooks and the National Institute of the Korean Language's Standard Korean Dictionary. Difficult words have their meanings provided in parentheses.
Additionally, we have marked the relevant units in the textbook in accordance with the 8th curriculum to help with school classes.
You can increase your understanding of the lesson by reading it again before class or during in-depth study after class.
The 『Textbook Biography Series for Elementary School Students』 was completed with the participation of experts from all walks of life as editors.
Kim Yong-man (Director of the Institute of Korean History and Culture), Shin Hyeon-deuk (Poet, former President of Saesakhoe), Yoon Jae-un (Northeast Asian History and Culture Research Institute)
(Department of Physics, Professor, Department of Early Childhood Education, Jeonbuk National University of Science and Technology), Lee Eun-kyung (PhD in Philosophy, Professor, Department of Early Childhood Education, Jeonbuk National University of Science and Technology), Lee Chang-yeol (Department of Physics, Harvard University)
Professors Dr. Hak (former expert member of the National Science and Technology Advisory Council), Jae-do Jeong (Korean language scholar), and Su-cheol Jo (professor of pediatric psychiatry at Seoul National University College of Medicine) worked hard to accurately convey the lives of great people and to provide content that is more beneficial to children.
Includes a "Read and Think" section to expand your thinking and deepen your reading skills!
As important as reading a lot of books is training your thinking.
No matter how much a child reads, if they only remember the content, it is difficult to expect significant learning results.
In the "Textbook for Lower Grades: Biography Series," there is a "Read and Think" section where students can expand their logical and critical thinking skills after reading all the stories about great people.
First, short answer questions or one-line summary questions are presented to help you summarize the overall plot, and then questions are presented that gradually broaden your thinking, such as thinking from the character's perspective or developing your own opinion about the situation at the time.
Rather than reading a story flatly and passing it by, children learn to approach it from various perspectives and understand it three-dimensionally.
This also helps children develop the right values.
A sample answer, 'Solution', is included after each problem.
After children solve the problems themselves, they can compare their own ideas with their own, and parents and teachers can use it as a reference when guiding them.
A saint who sacrificed his life to spread love and the gospel to all people in the world!
Every year on December 25th, the whole world is filled with joyous festivals.
Christmas is the day that celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ, the founder of Christianity.
Jesus is a person who gave his life to spread the truth and the gospel.
He taught and personally practiced the teaching of loving all people in the world, including family, friends, neighbors, and enemies.
He also healed the sick and suffering.
Although he was crucified and left this world, his teachings still live in the hearts of many people.
When Jesus was thirty years old, he was baptized by John in the Jordan River and went out into the wilderness to pray.
I didn't eat or drink anything for 40 days.
The devil came to him and tempted him because he was tired in body and mind, but he overcame them all and returned to his hometown of Nazareth and began to spread the word of God.
He healed the sick and performed miracles such as curing the deaf and mute.
As the number of people following Jesus increased, so did the number of people who hated him.
In particular, the religious leaders of Judaism could not tolerate Jesus, who claimed to be the Son of God.
In the end, they framed him and had him executed.
Let us reflect on the true meaning of love through the life of Jesus, who practiced love even though he knew that he would die.
