Description
Book Introduction
Stories of a world dominated by YouTube, told by four authors.
Our story is a novel, but it is not read as fiction.
A world without the internet, YouTube, YouTubers, and social networks—wouldn't that be the most hellish world today's youth could possibly imagine? This applies not only to youth, but also to adults.
When asked, "If you could take only one thing to a deserted island, what would it be?" many people answer, "A cell phone."
If you just have that one thing, isn't it the absolute belief that you can live without anyone around you and not get bored?
The conveniences of the world that we have gained thanks to these are indescribable.
But if you think about it carefully, it's scary.
The power of the internet, YouTube, and various social media that we can access through our cell phones is so great that it is now difficult for us to live outside of their influence.
From small things like information about nearby restaurants, we get almost all information there, communicate through there, and live through tears and laughter.
These tools and media are what actually dominate the world and the people.
Four writers came together and used their imagination to tell a story centered around the common keyword of 'YouTube-YouTuber'.
"Symbiosis," "True Education Day," "The White Dolphin Game," and even "Cormo's Room" all portrayed the dark realities surrounding YouTube.
Sadly, the stories in this novel are never meant to be read as fiction.
YouTube and social media are merely tools created by humans for humans, yet they have now deceived us with false information, made us use each other out of selfishness, lured us into living in a created world rather than encountering and communicating with the real world, and have taken the position of absolute rulers who control our minds and bodies.
Authors are the first to discover and inform us of the dangers of the world. Through these works, the four authors use YouTube as a medium to inform us of the reality of the fictions our youth encounter.
Things are not always as they seem.
What it shows may not be true.
But now it is difficult to live without using it.
So, we need to think about how we can use YouTube, a powerful medium, effectively, appropriately, and wisely.
Tools can be good or bad depending on who uses them.
Young people are in the process of learning how to do that.
The stories here will allow readers to think about this.

Into the book
"yes.
His acting skills are also very good.
It was later revealed that most of the videos uploaded to YouTube were manipulated or staged.
Of course, the general public raises suspicions, but no conclusive evidence has been found.
It is likely that national hero Hyunwoo will maintain his current fame, reputation, and income in the future as well."
"I don't care about that, there's just one thing I want to know," the man said, then glanced at the screen.
“Please speak.” said the woman.
"Can that guy be of any help to us?"
"yes.
It helps.
The survey results showed that the more people liked our national hero, Hyunwoo, the more friendly they were to us.
"Okay! Then let's continue this good symbiotic relationship.
"Cover what needs to be covered, support what needs to be supported, and do your best."

The world of YouTube is still full of fun things.
But now Se-Hwan knows just one thing.
Not everything that appears in YouTube videos is true.
Not all YouTubers lord it over the weak by broadcasting manipulated content like true education, but there are some who exaggerate sensationally or tell false stories for the sake of views.
Also, while the information you get there can be quite useful, not all YouTubers are experts, they are just ordinary people with a little bit of knowledge.
Therefore, Se-Hwan realized that it was best to double-check the information he had obtained there.
--- p.97
Throughout class, the state was reminded of the Hanwoo and White Dolphin game.
Why do ordinary kids get so caught up in such strange games? I couldn't find an answer right away, but I understood.
Children sit at desks for hours studying in prison-like schools and languish.
You need to water yourself as you wither away, and that means cigarettes, violence, Bonbon juice, and destructive games like White Dolphin.
Through this, he tried to break free from the bondage by destroying himself.
The state made me wonder if flapping his arms before jumping was part of the mission of the white dolphin game, or if it was his own will to fly far away from the prison-like school.
--- p.134~135
Because I have to go back to reality and see my mom.
Maybe I was looking for an illusion rather than my real mother.
The articles kept coming up, one after another.
Were the countless people cheering on the Cormo monitor in that room also people like me? No, perhaps the Cormo creators I'd cheered for on YouTube in the past were all different people who'd come to that room and made their own videos? Everything was confusing. 'Let's get out of here.' This monstrous fantasy world of InYouTube was simply unbelievable.

Publisher's Review
“To the youth who see and read the world through YouTube
“An invitation from writers who wish to escape the world of fiction and falsehood and face the truth.”
《The Addicted Child》 is a collection of short stories written by four leading authors of youth literature.
The authors focus on the light and dark sides of YouTube, which has become deeply ingrained in the lives of our youth.
What does YouTube mean to young people? It's not just a medium they often call "indispensable," but one with such absolute influence that they can't even imagine its absence.
Beyond the function of entertainment, YouTube has now taken on an all-encompassing role, including providing knowledge and common sense. Authors offer valuable advice on the relationship between YouTubers and youth, using the format of a novel.
The stories highlight what can happen when the influence of YouTube and YouTubers is misused, and the lives of young people who are easily swayed by such power.
The message from the writers is to truly understand the power of this medium and find ways to utilize it effectively.
The protagonists in the four novels are either YouTubers or their fans, or they are immersed in the world of YouTube or games and make bad choices, or they escape into those virtual worlds and neglect the real world.
The four stories drawn by four writers with YouTube as a common subject matter are too similar to our reality to be dismissed as mere fiction.
The main character of ?Symbiosis?, YouTuber 'National Hero Hyunwoo', manipulates situations that will attract people's attention to increase the number of views and posts the videos, while another YouTuber, 'Issue Jigi', creates issues by raising questions about the authenticity of these videos, and they maintain a symbiotic relationship with each other.
Although they may appear to be enemies, they are actually in a symbiotic relationship, cooperating to increase each other's views.
Se-Hwan, a middle school student and protagonist of "True Education Day," is an avid fan of the YouTuber "True Education" and follows him, but he discovers that he runs his channel by uploading fabricated accusatory videos and demanding money.
Moreover, the reason he came to know about this was because his parents' restaurant became a victim of the accusatory video.
Going through these things, I realized that there are no proper means for victims or victims to seek relief within the YouTube system. I also wondered how powerless individuals, who are easily sacrificed in front of the giant corporation YouTube and powerful YouTubers, can protect their rights.
The "White Dolphin Game" is based on the "Blue Whale Challenge," which is said to have actually originated in Russia.
Those who participate in this challenge must complete missions given at each stage and record them on video. As the stage progresses, the missions become more dangerous and ultimately lead to suicide.
The novel depicts the adventures of two protagonists who participate in a game imitating this challenge and try to find the cause of their friend's death.
Minju, the main character of “Cormo’s Room,” suffers from autism.
Minju suffers from separation anxiety, depression, and insomnia, and as a means of healing, she becomes addicted to ASMR by YouTuber Kormo.
Minju, who refuses to communicate with anyone, including her parents, and is obsessed with only Cormo's ASMR, accidentally warps into YouTube and discovers a secret she never knew about, and comes out into the real world.
