Starting with the first volume in 2005, it has been published consistently, and has been completed in a total of 5 volumes: 1 Vowels, 2 Animals, 3 Consonants, 4 Metaphors, and 5 Rhythm.
The series sold 500,000 copies over 20 years, receiving unusual attention for a children's book and being praised for opening new horizons in children's literature.
In this special 20th anniversary edition, we have selected the 100 best poems from the five volumes, focusing on literacy, and presented them in a six-part literacy map.
All poems included in elementary and middle school Korean language textbooks were also included.

Poet Choi Seung-ho, who said, “The time I spent writing poetry about wordplay was a time to find the fun of our language,” expressed the beautiful musicality of Hangul, a phonetic alphabet, the fun that comes from chance, and the taste of free language in poetry so that children could fully experience it.
The process of finding meaning in a short poem will serve as a solid foundation for children to easily and naturally develop literacy skills.
The preface by Professor Na-ya Choi (Professor of Child and Family Studies, Seoul National University), which explains in easy-to-understand terms the importance of play-centered literacy, will serve as a useful guide for utilizing this book.

Poet Choi Seung-ho, who has made a significant mark on modern poetry, has published major poetry collections such as “Heavy Snow Warning,” “The Joy of the Secular City,” and “Grotesque,” and has won the Today’s Writer Award, the Kim Su-young Literary Award, the Isan Literary Award, the Daesan Literary Award, the Contemporary Literary Award, and the Midang Literary Award.
Poet Choi Seung-ho's unique deep and resonant content, humor, satire, and nonsense are expressed throughout his poetry.
Here, each chapter is harmoniously illustrated with high-quality illustrations by Yun Jeong-ju, adding to the expansion of the meaning of the poem.

Publisher's Review
The importance of literacy, word play, and sound language

Professor Choi Na-ya (Department of Child and Family Studies, Seoul National University) stated that 'word play' plays the most important role in improving children's literacy.
In particular, 'word play poetry', which is a form of listening and expressing through words and exchanging with various others, easily and naturally approaches children.
I mentioned four effects of playing with words at the same time, the first of which is the formation of an attitude of concentration and good listening.
The sounds of fun words awaken children's various senses and become embodied.
Second, it is about improving vocabulary, which is the material for literacy. As we cover a variety of materials, a huge number of words naturally appear.
Third, it helps develop phonological awareness, which is the foundation of reading and writing.
Repeating the rhythm of a poem helps develop a sense of language.
Finally, comprehension, which is the core of literacy, develops.

A literacy map of word play following six points
Expand your imagination with delightful and delicate illustrations

The 20th anniversary special edition has completed the literacy guidance for children by classifying the wordplay poems included in the "Poet Choi Seung-ho's Wordplay Poetry Collection" (5 volumes) into six parts.
It is divided into the fun of names, the fun of onomatopoeia, the fun of rhyming, the fun of tone, the fun of metaphor, and the fun of conversation, so that children can fully immerse themselves in the various fun of word play.
The names themselves, such as nod shrimp, crane, nananibeol, toktogi, and nollaemi, evoke curiosity and poetic expressions that can be used to create various images in your head.
You can also come into contact with various onomatopoeias in the Korean language, and feel the style and taste of words by matching the rhyme and tone.
Through metaphors, the meaning can be interpreted in various ways, and through poetry expressed as dialogue, the meaning can be understood within the context and relationship of the other.
In particular, Yun Jeong-ju's paintings, which are both cheerful and delicate, further expand the poetic meaning and help us imagine three-dimensional and absurd things.
