Description
Book Introduction
A collection of myths of ancient Germanic peoples, recorded over several centuries starting around 800 AD.
The True Face of Norse Mythology Through Translations of the Koeda

The original text of Norse mythology, the Poetic Edda, contains the entirety of the mythological thinking of the mythical age.
In order to convey the original form that cannot be found in a prose translation, I attempted the first translation of the verse Edda into yulmun.
After comparing and analyzing various past editions and consulting with foreign scholars, we selected the 1995 edition, which was revised and published in 1882 by Karl Simrock, a 19th-century German translator of ancient literature, and which Manfred Stange added detailed commentary and illustrations to, as the original text.
To aid the understanding of general readers, an index has been prepared, and to disseminate the scholarly value, some of the research papers of the responsible translator ("European Myths and Folktales," Seoul National University Humanities Journal Special Issue, 2002) have been supplemented and included as an appendix.
In the Korean translation of the Edda, which was born in this way, the voices of the ancient Germanic people reciting the stories of the gods and heroes come back to life.
The truth of myth is universal and fundamental.
The truth of myth transcends the barriers of time, space, and culture.
Norse mythology, the Edda, will not remain merely a trace of a forgotten past.
