Description
Book Introduction
"Stop telling me business and faith are separate." Two heart transplants! And then, a dramatic lesson in God's management unfolds! Running a top company with Proverbs 31. One thing all Christians unanimously agree on is that "living and working according to the Bible is nearly impossible." The story is that if you follow the Bible, you will end up suffering losses and being treated as a strange person. Could that really be true? Here, a man of God cries out, "Absolutely not!" Hyung-Rok Ha, chairman of Team Haas, a global architectural design firm, and a member of the Obama administration's architectural advisory committee. He is a model of God in the business world, proving that 'business can be done according to the Bible.' He lived in a leprosy colony in Busan until he was thirteen, and then, with the help of missionaries, came to Philadelphia and became an executive at a world-renowned architectural design firm at the age of twenty-nine. But God put the brakes on his life, which was running on the world's highway. Through two heart transplants and a period of life and death, God transformed him into a complete man of God. Especially through Proverbs 31, He taught us how to work in the world according to the Bible. Chairman Ha Hyung-rok started Team Haas in his warehouse with the motto, “We exist to help those in need,” based on the wisdom he learned from Proverbs 31. Over the next 20 years, Team Haas has grown into a globally recognized company, renowned for its capabilities and quality, and has become a beautiful company that is considered one of the most desirable companies for young people in the United States to work for. This book is a 'startup strategy book' that vividly records how God establishes His company in the business field based on Tim Haas's 20 years of experience, and a 'management strategy book' that empirically organizes how to serve the souls entrusted to God and expand the kingdom of God while competing with worldly companies whose goal is money. All of this wisdom and strategy comes entirely from God, and I believe that God bestowed this grace upon Chairman Ha first in order to establish many other Christian businessmen. I sincerely hope that through this book you will come to know God's amazing plan and strategy for you. And I earnestly pray that, empowered by God's wisdom, I may become a true entrepreneur and businessman of His. |

Into the book
After getting a job at an architectural firm, he rose through the ranks, getting promoted every year, and finally became an executive in his late 20s.
People often ask me, "What's the secret to an immigrant's meteoric rise and success at a prestigious American company?" and I'm always a little taken aback when I get asked that question.
Because there is no special secret.
I just did my best every moment.
If my boss told me to do 10, I did 11.
I always tried to do more than what was instructed.
But that wasn't because I had any determination to get promoted and succeed, but because I liked making my boss and colleagues happy by doing more work.
Their reaction motivated me to work harder.
---p.43
I started reading the Bible in earnest when I was hospitalized for a transplant.
I read and reread the word and looked at God with fear.
The hospital was like a wilderness to me.
I read the Bible almost every conscious moment.
At that time, there were only God and me.
Then one day, a word I had previously ignored struck me.
It was the word, “Love your neighbor as yourself” (Matthew 22:39).
When I was healthy, those words had nothing to do with me.
neck
I thought this was only applicable to people who have received the gift of charity or missionary work.
But at some point, those words began to resonate with me.
From this time on, God continued to awaken me from my selfishness.
Until then, my faith was vertical.
I was convinced that there was nothing wrong with my relationship with God, and I confirmed my power in that love and looked only to myself.
I thought that serving others was something that pastors and missionaries who were called to do, so I just had to work hard at the work given to me.
But the more I read the Bible, the more I realized that God was speaking to me in one way.
Once you are saved, there is work to do.
Salvation is given as a gift, but those who receive it have come to deeply realize that they must share that gift horizontally with others.
Until now, I have lived only for myself, including my family.
I worked hard to provide for my family and went to a good college to provide for my parents.
But actually, that was also something I did for myself.
Even after receiving salvation, I was serving myself, not God.
The Lord had brought me to the cardiac ward to hold me back from running so far toward the world and sin, and to turn me back to the path of true saints! With this conviction, I resolved to center my life on others, not myself.

Seek the higher purpose
A company with a high purpose
≡ Proverbs 31:20 ≡
She opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy.
He stretches out his hand to the poor and reaches out his hands to the needy.
Our company's founding spirit is 'We exist to help those in need.'
This spirit is taken directly from verse 20.
This is not much different from what we commonly know.
That is, as in verses 18 and 19, it means to work hard and share the remaining profits with many people.
The goal is not money, but to help those in need with it.
The entire verse of Proverbs 31 is in line with the verse in verse 20.
Based on this word, we created our mission: 'We exist to help those in need and spread the word of God.'
In fact, looking back, our company was able to overcome difficult times with the help of those who practiced God's command to help their neighbors.
On the 15th anniversary of our company's founding, we invited our loyal customers and presented them with plaques of appreciation.
It's already been six years.
I expressed my long-held gratitude to Temple University, MBNA, and others.
We are where we are today not because we are good, but because we have clients who entrusted us with important tasks, even though they were unable to walk or run properly after heart surgery.
They didn't give me a job at our company because I was capable.
I entrusted him with the job because I felt sorry for him and wanted to give him a chance.
To them, we were difficult neighbors, and we could receive great help through their compassion.
Now it is our turn to share the love we have received so freely.
After running towards this one goal for over 20 years, this spirit has become not just mine but that of all employees.
Our employees are very proud of this spirit and are happy that their hard work allows them to help those in need.
---p.104~p.105
Even if we were to lay off people now, no one would complain, but they desperately wanted to stay and work for our company.
I also asked this with faith, knowing their hearts.
“There is only one thing we can do now.
Now is the time to pray, whether you have faith or not.
Please pray for us to have work to do together.
I will pray another prayer.
When this recession is over, I will pray that God will give me a testimony to confess that we overcame this situation by His power.”
From then on, we all began to pray earnestly.
That was around April 2009, and unless things improved, I would have to lay off my employees starting in July.
But just a month later, a big design commission came in from Miami.
It has received four large-scale design commissions, including a 6,000-space parking structure for the Marlins Baseball Stadium in Miami.
It was a huge project that required 15 people to work for a year and a half, so we were able to last a year and a half with just that one project.
If we hadn't had the reserves to weather those tough times, a significant portion of our staff would have had to leave, and if we had received a huge design commission from Miami, we wouldn't have been able to handle it, and we would have missed the opportunity God had given us.
We have prepared a reserve fund for crisis situations according to the wisdom given through the Word, so we can overcome the difficult times together and be ready when the opportunity arises.
We were able to handle the task well with teamwork and abilities that set us apart from others.
---p.117~p.118
I'm always coming up with ideas to go the extra mile for my customers.
One of the most traditional ways is through insurance coverage.
After the construction is completed, we provide free maintenance work under insurance for one year, and before that period ends, we visit the customer around the 11th month.
After construction, ask if there are any abnormalities in the building and if there are any areas that need repair.
Since customers are often too busy to do maintenance work, we recommend that you utilize the maintenance work during the period covered by insurance.
While other companies provide basic design, we design with all the ideas to make the space come alive.
We always treat our customers with the same attitude, regardless of whether we have competitors or not, or whether our customers recognize us or not.
---p.131
‘In-ae’ is not a common expression.
The Bible clearly distinguishes between wisdom and love, proclaiming wisdom but always speaking the law of love with the tongue.
Then how can we speak of wisdom and benevolence?
The company's work is carried out through constant dialogue and communication.
However, depending on the form of the conversation, things can go smoothly, but sometimes things can go wrong and leave you feeling hurt.
Usually, the person who creates this situation is the boss.
The situation changes depending on whether the superior proclaims wisdom and speaks of the law of benevolence or not.
Among corporate bosses and managers, there are those who give harsh orders to their subordinates, yell at them harshly, and curse at them, thereby humiliating them on a personal level.
It is about treating employees according to your own feelings.
Things don't always go smoothly.
We need to work together to resolve the situation, but if feelings are hurt, things can get messed up.
A boss is not someone who orders his subordinates around and orders them to do things.
We must speak lovingly when sharing experiences, teaching wisdom, and assigning tasks.
In accordance with this, our company encourages leadership by helping and teaching rather than unilaterally directing and demanding.
Of course, swearing is absolutely prohibited.
Gossiping about someone who isn't there is also absolutely forbidden.
---p.140~p.141
Businessmen must work biblically.
We must sacrifice ourselves and do our best to help our employees and those in need around us.
God gives harmony as a gift to families that do good to others and convey His heart through business.
So, if you do business according to the Bible, you won't have any major problems with your family.
Because the family cannot help but love and accept such a person.
If you want to receive God's blessing and build a harmonious family, you must first earn the praise and recognition of your family by working according to the Bible.

In accordance with this, our company recommends leading by helping and teaching rather than unilaterally directing and demanding.
Of course, swearing is absolutely prohibited.
Gossiping about someone who isn't there is also absolutely forbidden.
