Description
Book Introduction
A little bigger, still in your hand, the IVP Booklet Special Edition
We break for the community and the community breaks us.

The IVP booklet series, a short but informative encyclopedia that answers practical questions and concerns across all areas of life, has long been beloved by countless readers.
Some of them have been given a new look under the name “IVP Booklet Special Edition.”
The book's binding has been redesigned, the font size has been increased to make it easier for everyone to read, and the text has been reorganized to maintain the feel of a booklet while being reborn as a more readable single volume.

Kepa Sempangi, author of "A Life Broken for Community," encourages us to remember Christ, who paid a huge price for "relationships," rather than for personal piety.
He says that the standard for judging whether our faith is truly in line with God's will is how deeply we are committed to the community.
He also movingly portrays, through his own precious experience, what it means to live a life of love and devotion, a life that is 'broken' for the community.

Suggestions for Reflection and Application

Into the book
If you are not studying the Bible and fellowshipping with your brothers and sisters, you are not walking in the light.
If you attend church but treat your sisters coldly, you are not walking in the light.
If we do not live transparent lives before our brothers and sisters, our gatherings will be nothing more than another form of alienation.

15 From “Confess your sins to one another”

If humbly confessing sins is a work of grace, then looking around at the dilapidated houses in the village and feeling heartbroken over the poverty of the people living there is also a work of grace.
If it is a work of grace to feel uneasy when you cannot reconcile with a sister who has sinned against you, it is also a work of grace to feel uneasy when justice is not restored to your neighbor.

From 24-25 “Bear the Fruit of the Spirit”

If you truly follow Jesus, you should not be waiting for a perfect community.
Christ gave himself for us while we were still sinners.
Even while being betrayed, Jesus laid the foundation for community life.
“On the night when he was betrayed, Jesus took bread” (1 Corinthians 11:23).
He gave thanks and broke the bread.
We too must follow Him and give ourselves to the community.
