Curious about Jesus and God
We support your start
This book is a Bible study material for home church members belonging to the Home Church Ministry.
The home church runs a “life study” program consisting of five stages, all of which are centered around the keyword “life.”
This textbook deals with the beginning of “life,” especially sin, salvation, God, and eternal life.
The five stages are as follows: the life of life, the life of assurance, the life of new life, the life of godliness, and the life of experiencing God.
The home church conducts its religious life centered on three things: “life study,” ranch meetings, and Sunday joint worship services.
The 'first Bible study in life' of a believer who has joined a home church is thoroughly centered on the word of the Bible.
By clearing up misunderstandings about God and presenting the essence of 'sin', which is diagnosed as the root cause of life's problems, and that God is the only solution, based on the Word, you will learn specific ways to live so that you can begin a life of experiencing God as a Christian.
This textbook consists of a 13-week course, and aims to teach students how to independently search, read, write, understand, and apply the Bible in the first of five stages.
It covers sin and God's solution, repentance and faith, rebirth and assurance, holy living and growth, Jesus and the Holy Spirit, and the New Testament church and church life that became the motif of the house church, and even devotion.
After explaining the core topic of each lesson, you are guided to record the answers to the required Bible passages, write down what you have realized from the words, and share and memorize verses.
There are note pages to help you study each subject, and there is also a generous notebook where you can write down Bible summary homework assignments based on your progress each week.
This is for new and established believers who wish to establish a foundation of faith. It will serve as a tool for experiencing and learning the basics of living as a disciple who knows God by reading and understanding the Bible on their own.

Into the book
The "Life of Life" Bible study is a lecture-based Bible study in which Pastor Young-gi Choi (the first director of the International Family Church Ministry Center) explains the major topics of systematic theology through storytelling for those who know nothing about Christianity or the Bible but are interested in God and Jesus. (‥) This textbook is for preview purposes.
According to the progress chart, read the questions at the beginning of the lesson you will learn in the next lecture in advance, and then find the given Bible passage directly in the Bible, fill in the blanks, and think about the answers yourself.
And while listening to the lectures, I compared the answers I found with the ones I learned, and learned how to read and understand the Bible on my own. This is because it is a Bible study where we think about and practice how to apply what we have learned and realized in real life. That is why the word "life" is included.
Pastors who wish to apply the "Life of Life" Bible study to their churches can attend the Home Church Seminar for Pastors, offered more than 10 times a year by the International Home Church Ministry Center, to learn how to lead "Life of Life" and receive various lecture materials.
--- From “How to Use the ‘Life of Life’ Textbook”
The word 'sin' is not very popular.
It makes us feel uncomfortable and uncomfortable.
But why does Christianity always address "sin" first? Because only by properly diagnosing the root cause of the problem can one provide a proper treatment.
What is the nature of sin as described in the Bible, and what are its impacts? Let's consider the following Bible verses.
--- From "Lesson 1"
The word 'repentance' is often misunderstood as something emotional.
And the difference between 'repentance' and 'regret' is also ambiguous.
What does the Bible say about repentance? Before considering repentance, we must first clarify what Christianity means by "salvation."
So, let's first look at what salvation is, and then think about proper repentance as the way to obtain that salvation.
--- From "Lesson 2"
In Buddhism, 'living beings' refers to all living beings who are bound by afflictions and cannot transcend birth and death.
However, the Christian 'rebirth' means being born again.
Just as I was not born by my own strength and effort, being spiritually reborn is not something that can be achieved by my own strength and effort.
When and how will we be reborn, and what will happen to us when we are reborn?
--- 「In Lesson 3
Christians must live holy lives.
But what comes to mind when you hear the word "holy"? Do you desire to be holy? Who comes to mind when you think of a "holy person"? Do you want to be close to that "holy person"? Or do you find it burdensome to be around them? What is the true holiness that the Bible speaks of?
--- From "Lesson 4"
The Bible is a truly mysterious book.
Over a long period of 1,600 years, the books written by about 40 people were compiled and are called the "Word of God."
Let's first look at what the Bible says about what kind of book it is, and then briefly examine the structure and characteristics of the entire Old and New Testaments.
--- From "Lesson 5"
One day Jesus asked his disciples, “Who do people say that I am?”
When the disciples gave the answer they had heard here and there, Jesus asked them again, “Who do you say that I am?”
Our lives and destiny depend on how we answer this question.
Who is Jesus? Who is Jesus to me?
--- From "Lesson 6"
The importance of the church in religious life and the growth of faith cannot be overemphasized.
However, there are not many opportunities to study what the church itself is.
When you think of "church," what comes to mind first? We immediately think of a chapel building.
However, if the chapel building is a church, there are many Bible verses that are not understood.
Today, let's look together at what the Bible says about the church and what its mission is.
--- From "Lesson 7"
The Bible is a contract.
This contract is a contract between God and man, and it is called a 'covenant' because God always keeps His promises.
In a contract, there are things I have to do and things the other party to the contract has to do.
That is why, in our religious life, we must not just work hard in our own way, but we must work hard according to the Bible.
If I hold on to God's promise and do what the Bible says I should do, God will do His duty and give me the blessings He promised.
What is the ultimate blessing that God wants to give?

Publisher's Review
In order to understand the incomprehensible life, I read every book on the bookshelf at home since elementary school without even understanding its meaning.
As a teenager, I was engrossed in many psychology books, including those by Sigmund Freud, as I thought they might hold the answers.
When I became a college student, I became enthusiastic about existential philosophy.
As I grew older, I became fascinated with transcendental meditation and began meditating twice a day for 20 minutes each time.
But despite these efforts, I couldn't find a satisfactory answer to life.
Then, when I met Jesus through the Bible, all my problems were solved.
After receiving my Ph.D., I began my research career at a laboratory in Silicon Valley, California.
At that time, at the recommendation of my pastor, I began leading a Bible study group as an office worker.
I felt that traditional Bible study methods were not effective in conveying the joy of the Bible and were not effective in bringing about life change.
So, we developed a Bible study teaching method that involves choosing a topic to cover in seminary, selecting three or four key Bible verses related to it, using simple language, easy-to-understand everyday examples, and leading the students in a conversational manner.
This is the 『Life of Life』.
- Those who are new to religious life in a home church learn about Christian truths centered on the Bible.
- Because it is structured around the Bible, you can focus on key topics for 13 weeks.
- You can learn at a glance the basic structure and content of the home church as well as religious life.
- It can be used as a teaching material for individual or small group nurturing and sharing centered on the Word.
- By learning a wealth of Bible verses, you will train yourself to read, summarize, and memorize the Bible.
