Queen and Queen Dowager
Queen and Queen Dowager
Description
Book Introduction
There was a time when Queen Dowager Shinjeong was described as King Gojong's 'creator.'
This literally means that he is the person who created Gojong.
If there had been no Queen Dowager, there would have been no King Gojong.
Why did Queen Dowager Jo choose Gojong? What benefits did that choice bring her? The opportunity to have another son and become the mother of a king for the second time.
As the mother of a king, the right of the queen dowager to choose a king is a very special power.
Among the three countries of Korea, China, and Japan, North Korea appears to be the most powerful.

I even felt a sense of exhilaration in the scene where Queen Dowager Jo brought about an agreement to rebuild Gyeongbokgung Palace.
It can now be said that the main protagonist of the reconstruction of Gyeongbokgung Palace, which had been led by Daewongun, was actually Queen Dowager Sinjeong.
I could also understand why Queen Sunwon went to such lengths to become King Cheoljong's mother.

In the end, the title of the book became 'The Queen and the Queen Mother'.
Although intended as a queen, the weight was placed more on the dowager queen.
I hope this book will serve as an opportunity to redefine the role of contrast.
There is of course much more to be done, but I think that I or someone else can do it later.
Although this book is lacking, I would be more than happy if it could show one characteristic of Korean women's history.
