Foundations of the Metaphysics of Ethics
Foundations of the Metaphysics of Ethics
Description
Book Introduction
The Groundwork of the Metaphysics of Morals (1785) was the first of Kant's major works on moral philosophy, published between the Critique of Pure Reason (1781, 1787) and the Critique of Practical Reason (1788).
This book is a sister book to the Critique of Practical Reason, with content and material very similar to each other.

“In terms of content, 『Groundwork of the Metaphysics of Morals』 is a work that cannot be read separately from 『Critique of Practical Reason』.
I believe that if you read the two books together, you will be able to contrast them and understand them better.
The target of understanding is Kant's introduction that human dignity is based on the establishment and observance of moral laws through pure practical reason of human beings.” (Translator)

This book begins with the concept of "good will," which can be found in the ethical perception of ordinary people, and reveals that only categorical imperatives can be moral laws, and that the system of such moral laws is the "kingdom of ends."
Through this, we are carrying out the work of 'critique of practical reason' for the metaphysics of ethics by asking about freedom, the source that makes moral laws possible, and by retracing the possible grounds of the categorical imperative.

This book was originally written for the task of critiquing the human faculty of pure practical reason in order to establish a metaphysics of ethics.
However, in 1788, Kant published a separate book titled Critique of Practical Reason.
This means that, in addition to the 『Groundwork of the Metaphysics of Morals』, it was felt that supplementation or reworking was necessary for the foundation of the ‘metaphysics of ethics’.

This 『Jeongcho』 was originally published as the second edition following 『Critique of Practical Reason』 in the early days of the publication of the 『Complete Works of Kant in Korean』, and included various essays and domestic and international research materials as appendices. However, as the publication of the 『Complete Works』 continued, such appendices were no longer necessary, so this is a revised edition published again.
