Into the book
Life was flowing like breathing in and out.
The silence that comes after crying, the light that shines after despair, another story that begins where it was thought to be the end.
In the breath created by the wind and waves, my forgotten inner self slowly awakened and regained movement.
--- pp.25-26
That's how Yeonhee lives today.
At the threshold of a new season, with clear steps.
I prepare to face the next story with a stronger heart than yesterday.
--- p.66
I want to tell everyone who lives alone:
It's okay to get used to it slowly.
It's okay to be clumsy and anxious sometimes.
Even if you don't do it perfectly, just living the day to the fullest is enough.
--- p.86
The tree stands silently, and the gentle breeze rustles the leaves and branches, caressing my cheek, forehead, and shoulder.
The forest whispers quietly in my ear in every possible language that it's okay to do nothing, that this is enough.
--- pp.111-112
On the way back from my parents' house / Waiting for the signal / Suddenly looking back.
/ The sunset painted the clear evening sky red.
/ Is it the tears in the eyes of a mother sending her daughter off? / Is it the farewell of a father who told her to hurry and leave while it's still bright? / The sunset that holds onto the last bit of the sun / I keep looking back because it feels like my parents' hearts.
--- p.128
Life may ultimately be a process of learning how to be with myself.
The process of slowly finding your center without collapsing while wavering between being alone and being together.
As I stand there now, I am okay with being alone, and I am okay with being together.
--- p.164
The trip didn't always go as planned...
Looking back, the embarrassment of that day actually turned out to be an unexpected gift.
Life is like that too.
Things that felt like misfortune at the time take on a completely different meaning as time passes.
Sometimes, the way back shows a more beautiful scenery.
--- p.196
As I journey back in time to discover the foundation that made me who I am today, I realize how much love, sacrifice, and dedication I have built upon.
--- pp.197-198
Going to the laundromat was the catalyst for me to start organizing my clothes on hot summer days.
After retirement, I threw away the suits and clothes I no longer wear.
The word 'organization' was brought out from within me again.
As I organized things, it felt like even the old dregs of my heart were washed away.
--- p.246
Even in the deep sea, waves and currents surge.
The current of water across the ocean speaks to me.
“Where are you going?” I was captivated by the allure of the sea, its utter silence and peace.
--- pp.262-263
How could I find new happiness and joy by playing a variation on the monotonous, repetitive pattern of my daily life? It was at this point, as I was pondering this, that the "Seongnam City Single-Person Healing Space" came to me.

Publisher's Review
In the era of 10 million single-person households
How single-person households live
According to an announcement by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, the number of single-person households in Korea exceeded 10 million in March 2024 and continues to increase.
In this "era of 10 million single-person households," what kind of lives do these individuals lead, what are their thoughts? What interests do they have, and what inconveniences do they experience? This book can help alleviate some of these questions.
The book is a collection of essays on single-person households written by 11 members of the 'Seongnam City Single-Person Household Healing Space,' the first local government-run space in the country.
Writing a book is by no means easy, even when several people work together. It is impossible without a challenging spirit and strong will. However, the authors of this book started writing at the end of May and continued writing nonstop throughout the unusually hot summer.
So I was able to finish the book, and we were able to read this wonderful book.
The book depicts a truly diverse range of single-person households, including travel, finding a home, financial independence, exercise, health, hobbies, and eating.
The authors speak candidly about the positives, but also the challenges of living alone, including anxiety and loneliness.
However, this book does not only talk about living alone.
The authors of the book also show how they maintain valuable relationships with local residents and live a harmonious life in a space like a cultural center, participating in various club activities such as art viewing, coffee, calligraphy, podcasting, short-form, table tennis, photography, and writing.
The authors of this book are men and women in their 20s to 60s.
The greatest strength of this book is that it is composed evenly, not focusing on a specific age group or gender, and thus provides an opportunity to look into the diverse lives of single-person households.
If you read the book, you will learn more about single-person households.
Readers who live alone will find many useful aspects.
It is expected that the direct voices of single-person households will also serve as a source of useful ideas for those responsible for supporting single-person households.
