Pilgrim's Progress 2
Description
Book Introduction
Recommended by Pastor Lee Dong-won, Pastor Kim Ki-seok, and Pastor Ryu Eung-ryeol
The second story of "Pilgrim's Progress," a miniature version of a believer's life, rich in spiritual nourishment!
A different kind of resolution, excitement, and fun from Part 1 of "Pilgrim's Progress"!
The third book in the [Classic Forest Duranno Must-Read] series, which introduces proven Christian classics that have touched the hearts and changed the lives of countless people over the years, is Pilgrim's Progress 2: The Unfinished Story.
John Bunyan's masterpiece, Pilgrim's Progress, which transcends time and culture and is still loved today, caused a sensation not only in England but also throughout Europe and America when it was published in 1678.
However, as the book gained great popularity and acclaim, those who wanted to exploit it emerged and fake sequels began to run rampant.
Eventually, John Bunyan could no longer stand it any longer and began writing 'The Story of the Remnant of the Christian Family' himself, and six years later, he published 'Pilgrim's Progress, Vol. 2: The Unfinished Story'.
Just as in Pilgrim's Progress, which contains the exciting pilgrimage of a Christian who, after leaving the city of destruction with a desperate heart and being freed from the burden of sin on the cross, traveled through rough terrain, over sunlit mountains, and sometimes through dark valleys toward God's nature, the author, with his outstanding spiritual insight and writing skills, has connected the spiritual principles of the Bible to the real lives of ordinary people all around us.

Into the book
Christiana: “It is natural for people with a heart that feels pity for souls to become pilgrims.
Just as my good husband left me, I feel sorry for Miss Compassion's relatives and friends.
My husband was very sad when I closed my ears and didn't listen to anything.
But He, the Lord of my husband and our Lord, collected every drop of my husband's tears in a bottle.
So now, I, my beloved sheep, and my precious sons are reaping the fruits of that labor.
The tears shed by the compassionate sheep will not disappear in vain.
The truth is, ‘Those who sow in tears will reap with songs of joy. He who goes out weeping, bearing seed for sowing, will come home with songs of joy, carrying his sheaves with him.’” (Psalm 126:5-6)
--- pp.49~50
Bold: "Do you feel like you're floundering in the middle of an endless ocean, or falling into deep water? Or maybe you feel like you're falling off a cliff.
It will feel like locks are surrounding us from all sides.
But there is a verse that says, “Let him who walks in darkness and has no light trust in the name of the LORD and rely on his God” (Isaiah 50:10).
As I said before, I have passed through this valley many times.
There have been many times when I was in much more difficult situations than I am now.
But as you can see, it's alive.
I'm not trying to brag.
Because it wasn't me who saved myself with my own strength.
We will definitely be saved.
Now, let us pray to God to enlighten our darkness and rebuke not only these men but all the demons of hell.”
… (omitted) …
Samuel: “It’s okay though, since I’m not going to stay here forever.
We'll definitely pass through here.
And perhaps one reason we pass through here on our way to the house prepared for us is… …to make it clearer how good the house is.
… (omitted) … I think that if I get out of here, I will cherish the light and the good path even more than before.”
Bold: “Yeah, we’ll get out of this way soon.”
--- pp.140~141
Weak-hearted: “As you can see, I am a weak person.
As I was crossing the threshold of death once a day, I thought that I would not be able to die in exile if I stayed at home.
So I started out on a life of pilgrimage.
We came here from the uncertain village where my father and I were born.
I am not a strong person, neither physically nor mentally.
But even if I have to crawl, I intend to go on a pilgrimage.
When I reached the narrow gate where this road begins, the owner of the place welcomed me with open arms.
He didn't cast me out because I was weak or had a soft heart.
You gave me everything I needed for my journey and encouraged me not to lose hope until the end.
I experienced great grace.
The interpreter decided that the mountain of Gongo was too difficult for me, so he gave me one of the bells in the house.
The paper carried me up the mountain.
I also received much comfort from the pilgrims.
They could not go slowly with me, but they came to me and encouraged me, saying that it was the Lord's will to comfort the fainthearted, and then they picked up their pace again (1 Thessalonians 5:14).
But on the way to the raid, I met this giant.
The giant asked me to fight him.
But I'm weak in body and mind, so there's no way I'd have the courage to do that.
Eventually, the giant pounced on me and took me away.
But I thought, 'Would the giant really kill me?'
Even though I entered the cave, I believed that I would be able to get out alive since I didn't go there on my own.
I have heard that a pilgrim who is captured by a violent man will not die at the hands of the enemy, according to the law of providence, as long as he keeps his heart wholeheartedly toward the Lord.
It looked like I was robbed, and I was, but as you can see, I escaped alive.
I sincerely thank my King who planned all this and all of you who were instrumental in this work.
I may be attacked again in the future, but this time I am determined.
If I can run, I will run, and if I can't run, I will escape on foot.
If I can't walk, I'll crawl to survive.
Above all, I am grateful to the Lord who loves me.
Now my decision is firm.
I will follow the path set before me to the end.
As you can see, I am a weak-hearted person, but my heart has already crossed the river without a bridge.”
--- pp.183~185
Time passed and it was time for the pilgrims to set out on their pilgrimage again.
After they prepared to leave, they called their friends together and discussed various matters, and then spent time praying to the prince for their safety.
The friends brought what was needed for the pilgrims, both the weak and the strong, the women and the men, and helped to support their luggage (Acts 28:10).
… (omitted) … So the pilgrims continued on their way, with Damdae leading the way.
The frail women and children continued their pilgrimage at a pace they could handle, and the weak hearts and the ones on the verge of stopping felt a sense of kinship as they watched them.
The pilgrims, having parted ways with their friends and left the village, soon arrived at the place where Sinsil was martyred.
They stopped there and thanked the Lord for giving them the strength to carry the cross.
Because they now realize that they have benefited from the fact that Shinsil boldly accepted hardship without fear.

The bold man answered.
“I am a guide who leads pilgrims.
"I am a servant of the King of Heaven. Open this gate so I may enter! Come and fight with me! I have come here to take your head and destroy the castle of doubt!"
The Giant of Despair boasted about being a giant and inwardly laughed at his opponents, saying that no human could defeat him.
"I have defeated even angels, so how can I be afraid of someone like you?" The heavily armed giant came out with a proud air.
He wore a steel helmet on his head, a flaming breastplate on his chest, iron shoes on his feet, and a huge club in his hand.
However, the six of them, not showing any sign of being discouraged, rushed at the giant at once and attacked him without mercy.
Even though she had no confidence in helping her husband, she was defeated by a single attack from Jeongjik.
As six people risked their lives to run towards him, the giant of despair, who seemed unmovable, finally fell to the ground.
The giant struggled until the very end, not wanting to die.
But, not to be outdone, the dagger cut off his head in an instant, severing his windpipe.
The six warriors then took advantage of the momentum and completely destroyed the castle of doubt.
As the readers might have guessed, with the Giant of Despair dead, it was much easier to destroy the castle.
It took only seven days to dispel the wall of doubt.
In the process of demolishing the castle, they found Mr. Ui-gi-so-chim and his daughter Wang-geop-jaengi, who were on the verge of starvation.
Fortunately, we were able to rescue these two people alive.
--- pp.208
Bold: “The Enchanted Lands are one of the last havens the Enemy has set up to destroy the pilgrims.
So, as you can see, we are here at the very end of the pilgrimage route.
So it's a more dangerous place.
By the end of the trip, your body feels so heavy that you just want to sit and rest more than before.
The enemy is aiming for this very point.
So the land of magic is really close to the land of the beast.
Pilgrims must be especially careful not to fall asleep like these people.
“Once you fall asleep, no one can wake you up.”
… (omitted) …
Indomitable: “People who die here do not die from sudden, serious illnesses.
Don't die from pain.
“You slowly die while enjoying a sweet sleep.”
--- pp.234~237
As I was getting ready to leave, the appointed time arrived quickly.
When he went down to the river, it was very calm.
He stopped halfway across the river and said these last words to his friends who had seen him off.
Indomitable: “This river has been an object of fear for many.
I too tremble with fear just thinking about this river.
But once I got in, it wasn't difficult at all.
Now my feet are on the place where the priests who carried the Ark of the Covenant stood when the Israelites crossed the Jordan River (Joshua 3:17).
The waters of this river are bitter to the mouth and cold to the stomach, but when I think of where I am going and the welcome that awaits me on the other side, my heart is now as hot as a blazing coal.
Now I am at the end of my journey.
The hard days are over.
Soon I will see the face of Him who crowned me with thorns and was spat upon for me.
Until now, I have lived by rumors and faith, but now I will joyfully go to a place where I can meet Him in person and live with Him.
I loved hearing the Lord's words, discovering His footsteps, and following them.
To me, his name was as precious as a box of musk, as sweet as perfume, and his voice was incomparably sweet.
I wanted to see his face more than the sunlight.
I have used His words as food for my soul and as an antidote to heal my broken heart.
Thanks to him holding me up, I was able to avoid falling into evil ways.
He also strengthened my steps to walk in His ways.”
As he spoke these words, his face brightened and his strength grew stronger.
He said, “I go to the Lord.
With the words “Please accept me,” he disappeared from people’s sight.
It was a truly spectacular sight to see the horses and carriages, trumpeters, flute players, singers, and stringed instrument players who had come out to welcome the pilgrims, filling the vast area and filing up to the beautiful gate.
Just as my good husband left me, I feel sorry for Miss Compassion's relatives and friends.

Publisher's Review
Such different beings
Can we really go together?
In Pilgrim's Progress 2: The Unfinished Story, Christian's wife Christiana and her four sons, who refused to leave with Christian in Pilgrim's Progress and ended up remaining in the city of destruction, follow Christian on his pilgrimage.
It beautifully illustrates how the words of hope, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household” (Acts 16:31), are realized in our lives.
If 『Pilgrim's Progress』 was developed around the individual 'Christian', 『Pilgrim's Progress 2: The Unfinished Story』 highlights the community aspect.
It captures the intense and heartbreaking spiritual pilgrimage of the strong and the weak holding each other.
It breaks free from the narrow-minded thinking that treats others as mere tools or supporting actors needed to get to heaven, and delivers the moving message that although we are all imperfect and have many flaws, we can all run the race of faith together and ultimately reach our true nature.
Embracing temperament, experience, generation, and years of faith
A mysterious and powerful spiritual community!
The pilgrims pass through the same places as Christian and meet the people he met.
Sometimes, you meet completely new people, and it shows how the same place has changed over time.
This reminds us that the journey of faith for all believers, while similar in the grand scheme of things, is unique in its individual forms and can vary greatly depending on how each person responds.
It also contains more details about the lives of believers, such as how your son grows up during his pilgrimage, gets married within the community of faith, and continues his lineage.
If you want to easily introduce the Christian faith to believers, the next generation, or non-believers, pray and hand over these two volumes of the Pilgrim's Progress series.
It will be a gift of immense benefit to the soul of the recipient.
