Book Introduction
I would like to express my gratitude to the many people who have encouraged and helped me since the first edition of 'Purchasing Management for Creating Corporate Competitiveness' was published in 2009.
I would also like to thank all those who used this book to understand and learn about purchasing in schools, businesses, and industrial settings.
Time passes, and another era approaches that is different from the era in which the book was first published.
There are things that should not change in corporate management, and there are things that should change to suit the business environment.
Looking back, the strategic importance and proportion of purchasing in corporate activities is increasing, and interest in purchasing is also continuously increasing.
However, the changing business environment and the development and advent of new technologies have brought us to an era that demands new purchasing methods.
Thus, we revised the content of the first edition to reflect the changing circumstances, and published this revised and supplemented book.

First, in Module 1, the importance and significance of purchasing in corporate management were emphasized, and the link between corporate strategy and purchasing strategy was added, as purchasing decisions create a key competitive edge for a company.


In Module 2, purchasing risk management has become a part of everyday purchasing work, so this part has been absorbed and the content has been supplemented more thoroughly.
In addition, the core areas of purchasing work were supplemented and additionally structured to match the development of new purchasing sectors.


Module 3 adds more content on purchasing's connection with other departments, and adds new content on the expansion of purchasing work, connection with various areas, and cooperation and coordination with other departments.


Module 4 has been restructured into a new section called the social meaning of purchasing.
As the demand for purchasing has recently been increasingly focused on the role of creating a society where everyone grows together by helping to create socially sound and beneficial businesses through proper purchasing practices and fostering a healthy supply chain, this part has been described in more detail.
Module 5 describes new changes and developments in the purchasing sector.
This paper describes the new value of purchasing activities and the path and direction of development that purchasing should take in the changing environment brought about by the Fourth Industrial Revolution and other factors.

We hope that this revised edition will help you learn and understand the new and evolving aspects of purchasing.
