Let's throw away the boring problems and ask math.
“So what are you really trying to say?”

For many people, math is a headache.
Math can seem difficult, boring, and sometimes useless.
People used to say things like this as they flipped through workbooks full of complex formulas.
"What use is this? Will I ever use this formula in my life?" Of course, that's true a hundred times over.
I'll never use something as complicated as a formula that's hard to remember in my life.
But if you say that, it is unfair and frustrating from a mathematical standpoint as well.
What mathematics wants to tell us is not just the formula, but the story hidden within the formula.

To understand the language of mathematics, we must understand what kind of world mathematics wants to show us through numbers.
The important thing is not that 2×3 is 6, but that to give three flowers to two people, you need six flowers.
All mathematical facts exist to explain the world we live in.
That's why I could never understand math if I just buried my nose in a workbook full of numbers.
Now let's throw away those boring problems.
And let's pull mathematics down from its high chair, look it in the eye and ask:
“So what are you really trying to say?”

This book will take us back to where mathematics was first born.
The place where numbers, addition and subtraction, fractions and decimals were created.
Will we be able to have the conversation we've never had with mathematics? Will we truly understand numbers, which were once a foreign language? Now is the time to open our hearts and listen to the story of mathematics.
