Lee Jong-san's full-length novel, "The Book Origami Club: A Thousand Origami Cranes and the Burning Classroom," was published as the 118th volume of Changbi Youth Literature.
This work, which received rave reviews from the Blind Advance Review Group, saying, "It's a work that coexists with liveliness, creepiness, and sadness," and "It's so captivating that you'll read it in one sitting the moment you open it," is the first volume in the "Book Origami Club" series, and announces the emergence of a new worldview of "origami."

"The Library Origami Club" is a story about Seyun, Sora, and Momo, members of the middle school library origami club, who get caught up in a mysterious incident and uncover the mysteries within the school.
This novel is a school story about sharing stories while doing origami in a rainy school, a historical story about bravely solving cases while going back and forth between the past and present, and a story about growing up together while holding hands with a friend sitting next to you. It has a variety of charms like a colorful origami piece.

The adventures of the three friends in the first story of the series, "A Thousand Paper Cranes and the Burning Classroom," foreshadow an exciting journey through origami ahead, and extend a loving hand to the readers, just as the main character, Momo, did to Seyun.

Into the book
On rainy days, school becomes a different place.
The damp hallway exudes a gloomy atmosphere, and even the most insignificant stains on the classroom walls seem significant.

--- p.7

I saw it then.
A child standing under a tree that is too big for the window.
It was a girl my age wearing a school uniform.
As the flash passed, the child disappeared.
“Did you see the kid standing outside the window just now?”
--- p.12

“Have you ever seen a paper crane ghost, senior?”
It was a question that took a lot of courage for me to ask.
"no."
--- p.25

“There was a ghost incident at school on Monday the 21st.
“Kang Ji-moon, a student in class 7, grade 2, was hiding in the library with his friends during morning assembly time… … .”
“They have the same name.”
--- p.116

“Choi So-ra, where are you?”
Momo's voice, which had walked ahead of me, was filled with confusion.
I suddenly felt anxious and quickly walked towards Momo.
There was no sky.

--- p.123

“No, what am I doing?
I'm a coward, you're the brave one.
I can speak well anywhere, I don't tremble, I'm scared of everything and everything is difficult.
“I will never be like you.”
“You really don’t know yourself.
No matter what happens around you, keep your center and don't get swept away.
He seems indifferent, but he is always quietly observing.
So I don't miss things that others just pass by.
“You always look out for others before yourself, and listen to what others have to say with sincerity.”
--- p.167

“But can’t we go together? We’re a team.
Library origami club.
“Whether it’s reckless or brave, let’s do it together, the three of us.”
Momo said in a cheerful voice.
I wish I could tell you someday how much Momo's strength means to me.

--- p.168

“Every time I fold a paper crane, I think of one person and make a wish for their safe return.
But those paper cranes are given to other people.
So I fold mine separately and bring it here to burn.
“If I burn this, I feel like the paper cranes will fly away and tell the people I’m waiting for.”
--- p.182

Something welled up in my heart.
I guess this is the kind of situation where you say your heart is full.
I have to tell Momo and Sora when they come back.
--- p.200

Publisher's Review
“If it’s okay, could you fold me a paper crane?”
When it rains, something amazing happens at school.

During a rainy summer vacation, Seyeon, Momo, and Sora, members of the origami club of the Pungyeong Middle School library, gather at school and do origami.
In the pouring rain, the members share stories about ghosts in the library, and then suddenly discover a child standing in the rain under a tree in the school playground and screaming.
The child soon disappears, but strange things continue to happen, such as power outages, mysterious footsteps, and the appearance of strangers.

“Please?”
I asked without bothering to hide my guard.
“If it’s okay, could you fold me a paper crane?”
Suddenly, a paper crane appeared, and my guard became even higher.
“I know this is a strange request, but I have something I absolutely need to do.
“Just one would be enough, but would that be difficult?” (Page 15)

The mysterious woman who asked them to fold an origami crane also disappears, and Seyun, Momo, and Sora continue their origami club activities with an unsolved mystery.
When the friends discover that there is a connection between the ghost stories surrounding the school library and the strange events they have experienced, they begin to investigate on their own.
Sora hears old school stories from her senior, Jang-hwi, who is a fan of ghost stories, and from Joyful Lotus, a graduate of Pungyeong Middle School who knows about paper crane ghost stories by searching the internet. She also asks her teacher, Ji-moon, who seems to be harboring a secret, about the past and is about to get closer to the truth when Sora disappears in the basement of the library.
While searching for Sora, Seyun and Momo discover a gap between the library cabinet and the wall. They decide to go inside, and the passage invites the club members into a strange world… … .
Will Seyun, Momo, and Sora be able to return to school?

“Actually, I’m scared.”
Momo whispered.
"me too."
We held hands tighter.
Momo's hands were covered in sweat.
We slowly moved forward little by little.
(Page 127)

“You need to know what a good kid you are.”
Origami that you have to fold alone until the end
But we can all sit together at the same desk and fold it.

Beyond the intriguing mystery within the school and the quiet and peaceful activities of the library and origami club, the "Library Origami Club" also has a great appeal with its unique and lively characters.
The timid and insecure Seyun, the playful and humorous Momo, and the chic and rational Sora all seem to be around us somewhere.
In particular, the main character, Se-yeon, thinks she is not brave enough and is always disappointed in herself for not being as good as her friends. This is also how we are.
However, the memory of completing the origami on her own, even though it was difficult, and the attitude of her friends who waited for her to complete it and cheered her on, little by little, give Seyun courage.

“You really…….”
Sora returned with a blank expression and trailed off.
“Isn’t that reckless?”
“No, I don’t want to express it like that.
You are brave.
You always have.
He may seem timid in normal times, but he neither hides nor runs away at crucial moments.
Even though you're scared, you do what you think you have to do despite your fear.
“You are the bravest person I know.” (Page 166)

The "Book Origami Club" tells us that sometimes we have to do things alone, but that we can always sit together.
This experience of being ‘alone’ and ‘together’ is the basis of Seyeon’s courage.
A peaceful daily life of quietly reading a book, a life of folding paper while chatting, and a life of spooky ghost stories and time slips.
In the "Book Origami Club," all of these are combined like a forest made by combining various colored papers.
If you open the book and fold a piece of paper with the members of the origami club, you will soon be able to complete your own work of art with paper written with wishes, miracles, friendship, and courage.

From the author's words

The origami story connected me to the past.
As I entered the past through the story of origami, I realized that the present I live in has never been separated from the past for even a moment.
The two are deeply connected.
The reason why I developed the story that started as a short story into a series was because I truly fell in love with Seyun, Momo, and Sora.
I want to write endlessly about three friends sitting together in the school library, folding paper.
