Records of the Three Kingdoms, Book of Wei 1
Records of the Three Kingdoms, Book of Wei 1
Description
Book Introduction
Of the 65 volumes of the original text of 'The Records of the Three Kingdoms', nearly half, or 30 volumes, are the 'Book of Wei', and the main character of this Book of Wei is Cao Cao.
Cao Cao, a hero who rose above the sorrows of being a minor figure as a descendant of a eunuch, witnessed the dire situation of the Later Han Dynasty and sought to give hope to the people. He also had the self-control to not ascend to the throne himself but wait for the right time and have his son Cao Pi found the Wei Dynasty.
At that time, Cao Cao's Wei controlled 10 out of 14 states, Wu controlled 3 states, and Shu controlled 1 state, so we can easily guess the power of Wei at that time.

The reason Cao Cao was able to achieve such success can be found first of all in his method of recruiting talented people.
When appointing people, Cao Cao put forward the logic that "only the talented are recommended," and selected talented people based on ability rather than virtue.
Even if someone had an affair with his sister-in-law or received a bribe, he would hire them without question as long as they had the ability.
It can be said that this tolerance technique became the foundation for Cao Cao to conquer the world.
The Battle of Guandu, which is most frequently mentioned in the Wei Shu, was fought against Yuan Shao, the most powerful force at the time.
Cao Cao, who won this battle, took Yuan Shao's base in a rapid succession and laid the foundation for taking control of the Central Plains.

Cao Cao widely implemented the field system, which contributed significantly to restoring agriculture that had been destroyed by war.
Additionally, he conquered Liaodong, destroying Gongsun Yuan, the powerful figure in Liaodong, and conquered Goguryeo, Manchuria, and Buyeo.
In 220, Cao Cao died at the age of 66, and his eldest son Cao Pi succeeded to the throne and founded the Wei Dynasty.
However, the Wei dynasty gradually began to decline due to the manipulation of the powerful official Sima Yi.
The Wei Dynasty ended its 46-year history from 220 to 265 when it fell into the hands of Sima Yan, the grandson of Sima Yi.

Publisher's Review
Cao Cao, Liu Bei, Sun Quan, Zhuge Liang… See the true colors of countless heroes who lived through troubled times!

What we commonly call the Romance of the Three Kingdoms is Luo Guanzhong's novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms.
Originally, the Romance of the Three Kingdoms was compiled by Chen Shou, and is an official history of the three kingdoms of Wei, Shu, and Wu in China.
《Romance of the Three Kingdoms》 is simply a novel based on 《The Official History of the Three Kingdoms》, so the two should not be confused.
《Records of the Three Kingdoms》 is not a simple record of history, but a comprehensive summary of an era that begins with the chaotic social conditions of the late Eastern Han Dynasty, which was called a "chaotic era," and encompasses the establishment of the Three Kingdoms, the transfer of power from the Eastern Han Dynasty to Wei, the fall of Shu, the transfer of power from Wei to Jin, and the fall of Wu. For this reason, it is considered one of the most notable historical books in ancient Chinese history, along with Sima Qian's 《Records of the Grand Historian》 and Ban Gu's 《Book of Han》.

The thrill of true history transcending fiction! Professor Kim Won-joong, a master translator of Eastern classics, has translated the first official Korean version of Chen Shou's Romance of the Three Kingdoms!

Jinshu attempted to describe the history of the Three Kingdoms in the form of a chronicle, but when faced with the situation where the monarchs of Wei, Shu, and Wu each called themselves emperors, he hesitated over which of the three countries to grant legitimacy to, and ultimately decided to grant legitimacy to Wei.
The reason for this is believed to be that the country in which Jin Su held office was the Jin Dynasty, and the Jin Dynasty's predecessor was the Wei Dynasty.
One of the charms of the 'Records of the Three Kingdoms' is that during the Northern and Southern Dynasties period, Song Beisongzi, who was disappointed that the content and description of the 'Records of the Three Kingdoms' were too brief, added annotations. This can be said to be the most popular version of the 'Records of the Three Kingdoms' that has been passed down to later generations.
The translator selected the most relevant content from the vast volume of delivery notes and translated them into annotations.
This book is a revised edition of the 《Records of the Three Kingdoms》, which was published by Professor Kim Won-joong of the Department of Chinese Language Education at Dankook University, who is considered the leading translator of Oriental classics in Korea and the first individual to translate Sima Qian's 《Records of the Grand Historian》 in the world, after meticulously examining it from the beginning, revising the translation and annotations.
