Yang Se-bong's Biography 234
Into the book
If the Battle of Bongodong and the Battle of Cheongsanri were one-time battles, General Yang Se-bong was an independence fighter who occupied territory against the Manchukuo army and the Japanese regular army and continued to resist the Japanese from that base.
Among them were brilliant victories, bitter defeats, and the pain of losing a beloved daughter.
However, the 'Korean Revolutionary Army' maintained its base and continued its tenacious struggle, which soon became the foundation of the 'Korean Volunteer Corps' established in Wuhan.
Because we focused solely on the victories in the Battle of Bongodong and the Battle of Cheongsanri, many of the dazzling achievements of the 'Korean Revolutionary Army' were relatively obscured.
After liberation, a fierce ideological confrontation took place, and pro-Japanese figures and those from the Manchurian Military Academy and the Gando Special Force took the lead in the South.
So, when we talk about the history of the struggle for independence, it ends up being as if North Korea was the only one involved, and our silence ended up providing a stage for Kim Il-sung, the person directly involved, to distort history as he pleased.
Go to the Patriotic Martyrs' Cemetery in Pyongyang.
On General Yang Se-bong's tombstone, there is no mention of the 'Korean Revolutionary Army' he led, only 'Commander of the Independence Army'.
The 'Korean Revolutionary Army' was an organization with actual physical power of the government and the party, that is, the 'National Department' and the 'Korean Revolutionary Party', and since its establishment, it was a military organization that waged an armed struggle against Japan and Manchukuo under the command of General Yang Se-bong, overcoming all kinds of difficulties.
It was like the Korean Liberation Army that belonged to the provisional government in the 1940s.
However, the word 'revolution' has become so appealing to the North Korean regime that it has become a word used only by them.

Publisher's Review
He is an independence activist who is honored in both North and South Korea, and while his record of struggle is not well known, it depicts the life of General Yang Se-bong along with his armed struggle.
The life of General Yang Se-bong, who sacrificed his life for his country at a crossroads as a colonial subject who lost his country and as a person who had to support his parents, siblings, and children, leaves us deeply moved.
