Book Introduction
Morning G - A Walk Through Japan's Morning Set in Nagoya
Whenever we travel in Japan, we always look for old-fashioned Kitsaten for breakfast.
In the quiet and cozy atmosphere of a cafe, steeped in the layers of time, enjoying a cup of warm blended coffee and freshly baked bread brings a small but subtle sense of happiness.
It's also interesting that the atmosphere of the customers in each cafe is slightly different.
In some places, there are many people reading books alone, and in other places, the local residents are engrossed in chatter from the morning.
Living in Japan, it may be difficult to enjoy this kind of leisure time, but it is possible to enjoy this time while traveling.
It feels like the clock is slowing down in the morning.
Over the years, I've traveled to various cities and made note of the breakfast menu every time I visited Kitsaten.
Some days at a small cafe near the hotel, some days at an old teahouse on the corner of an alley.
As I organized the records I had collected by city, I had a new realization: 'Wow, I ate this much in the morning!'
Nagoya, in particular, is the birthplace of the Japanese morning set, ‘Morning G’, so the morning time was even more special.
Because it wasn't just a time to have coffee and bread, but a moment to feel the city's daily life, scenery, and people.
I once had a chat with Park Hye-jin of Etnaine Film, who works at a movie theater, about the Japanese morning scenery.
The conversation ended with the conclusion, "Then should we go to Nagoya ourselves?"
We didn't just sample the morning set; we also explored small theaters and record stores, documenting the city's hidden charms.
As I walked through the narrow alleyways, encountering old signs and small shops, and leisurely sipping coffee in a cafe, I gradually savored the unique charm of the city of Nagoya.
The experiences I saw and tasted while walking were recorded in photos and words and naturally incorporated into the book.
That's how this book began.
While introducing the warmth and warmth of Japanese morning sets, we also aim to share the small pleasures and special spaces of Nagoya experienced by the Sosimin Work team.
I hope this will bring a little smile and inspiration to those who want to enjoy a more leisurely morning, along with travel, food, and the city's scenery.
I hope that someday you too will walk through this city and, like us, experience moments of discovery: "Ah, there's such fun in this alleyway!"
