Epilogue
Into the book
I say New York is excitement, joy, and longing.
Haruki Murakami said this.
“If we already knew what was there, no one would bother to take the time and effort to travel there.
No matter how many times you go to a place, every time you go there you are bound to feel surprised and say, 'Wow, there's something like this!'
That's the journey.”
This is what New York is to me.
No matter how many times I go there, it's still a surprising place for me.
Oh, there's something like this! A place that makes me excited again.
A city where you can always approach with a traveler's feel.
A city where you can spend your daily life like a trip and your trip like your daily life.
A city where life is enjoyed like art and travel is enjoyed like art.
Actor Burt Lancaster once said this while filming Sweet Smell of Success:
“I love this dirty town.”
Yes, that's right.
New York is a glamorous city, but it is also a dirty and crowded city.
Old buildings and subway stations.
Sometimes, the unorganized garbage on the street causes a foul odor and makes people frown upon seeing the dirty streets.
But for me, New York is undoubtedly as attractive as its dark alleys.
It's a romantic and energetic city, and just walking down the streets is exciting.
This is how New York is to me,
It's excitement, joy, and longing.
Like Na Tae-ju's poem "Wildflowers",
It's pretty when you look closely.
You have to look at it for a long time to love it.
New York is like that.
I want to see it in detail.
I want to see you for a long time….
