Korean regional studies in the era of cultural autonomy
Description
Book Introduction
The era of local autonomy,
Asking about 'regional studies' in the small town of Muan
The origin of the name Muan is said to be under the water or inside the water.
What does "under the water" or "in the water" mean? It refers to the waters and sea of the Yeongsan River and the West Sea.
This may be the reason why Muan is interpreted in relation to water.
Now, in this age of the ocean, the age of islands, and, more importantly, the age of regional decentralization and autonomy, an age where regional studies are becoming the trend, we are disseminating regional studies from Muan.
It's not ordinary.
This book combines the results of two regional studies conferences held in 2021 and 2022, and compiles related papers.
It was planned by Muan Cultural Center, and many scholars including Lee Yun-seon, Lee Hae-jun, Yoon Myeong-cheol, Na Seung-man, Lee Chang-sik, Kang Jin-gap, Song Hwa-seop, Heo Nam-chun, Cheon Deuk-yeom, Kang Shin-gyeom, Park Sang-il, Kim Hee-tae, and Yoon Yeo-jeong participated.
It was published as the 12th volume of the Muan Local Culture Series.
Lee Yun-seon, who led the publication, wrote in “Things that First Started in Muan Bay” that if you turn the map upside down, the first gateway to the Korean mainland is the large and small islands of the southwestern sea, the southern region, and Muan.
If you read the peninsula as a bay and change your gaze along the invisible water valley, you will finally be able to see these things.
In that respect, this book, which is being sent nationwide from the small town of Muan, has great significance.
I believe that the publication of the book, “Korean Regional Studies,” by the Muan Cultural Center, rather than by any authoritative institution in Seoul, is more in line with the meaning of regional autonomy and cultural decentralization.
If you change Muan to your own region, I think you will understand the weight of its meaning even more.
