Into the book
About two and a half years later, by pure coincidence, I met Hye-won again on Naver Blog.
It was quite surprising to meet neighbors with similar tastes as we each posted content about the same interests, 'bread' and 'travel', on our own blogs.
When we first met in Portugal, I wondered if we would have become close immediately if we had known each other's tastes. But then I thought, "Maybe we were meant to meet again somehow."

--- p.7

The pretty visual, savory smell, and sweet taste of bread are all great, but to me, bread is a little more special than that.
Is it because we only filled our stomachs with bread during difficult times?
Memories of 'bread' and the meaning of 'bread' come to mind with a poignant feeling.
Thanks to this, bread is now with me wherever I go on Earth.

--- p.20

In general, Madame means 'the hostess of a bar, tea house, jewelry store, etc.', but in France, Madame is a formal title for women meaning madam, wife, or noble lady.
It is called Croque Madame because the appearance of a croque monsieur topped with a fried egg resembles a lady wearing a hat.
If we translate it into Korean, it is a cute name that means crispy man and crispy woman.

--- p.75

Even now, whenever I think of Auschwitz, I also think of Obarzanki.
Because the traditional Krakow bread, Obarzanki, shaped like a bagel, was the only food that satisfied my hunger during a busy day.
I want to go see the first concentration camp, which I have not seen, someday in the distant future, after mentally preparing myself.
You might get hungry, so you should prepare several Obarjanki.

--- p.89

I tried the 'Sachertorte', a chocolate sponge cake layered with apricot jam and topped with chocolate icing, dipped in whipped cream.
It was a clean-tasting dessert with a hint of refreshing and sour apricot jam on a soft, not-too-sweet chocolate cake, and the addition of soft whipped cream.
The flavors were harmoniously combined with a sip of Einspanner with whipped cream on top of the coffee.
Of course, the Melange, a smooth-tasting café latte topped with whipped cream, is also a great accompaniment to Sachertorte.
It was a valuable time that brought back memories of Vienna, the city of art.

--- p.122

I always think.
Bread is more than just a food that brings back happy moments for everyone.
Sometimes, when a delicious bakery is featured on TV, I see people waiting in long lines to buy bread the next day. I think bread is something that anyone can consume lightly and feel happy about.
I remember on the last day of my trip to the Czech Republic, when I had only a few crowns left, saving money for a meal and happily buying chimney buns from 'Krusta' with my friend.
We bought happiness for 60 koruna that day.

--- p.156

Whenever things didn't go my way, I would stop by my usual bakery, buy some of my favorite bread, and think.
‘You are consistent.’ Bread is a small comfort to me.
Even on a gloomy day, when I chew on a soft, fluffy bread with my mouth full of crumbs, I find myself smiling without realizing it.
Because it's delicious, because I'm happy.
