Daema Island Self-Travel
Description
Book Introduction
It's a shame to pass it by without knowing
Tsushima Island belongs to Nagasaki Prefecture, but is closer to Fukuoka.
Compared to the 138km distance from Fukuoka and the 49.5km distance from Busan, it is an island much closer to South Korea.
It is easily accessible, making it a great day trip destination, and it boasts beautiful natural scenery and the charm of a simple rural village.
In spring and summer, the flowers of Korean azaleas and poplars color the mountains, and lovely hydrangeas color the roadsides.
In autumn, the leaves fall everywhere, and white buckwheat flowers bloom in profusion. This is Daema Island, where new scenery emerges with each season.
If you've been passing by this place because it's less well-known than other travel destinations in Japan, discover its true value with "Daemado Self-Travel."

Into the book
This monument was erected in 1931 to commemorate the marriage of Count Takeyuki So, the lord of Tsushima Domain, and Princess Deokhye, daughter of Emperor Gojong.
It was demolished after the couple's divorce in 1955 and restored in November 2001.
Princess Deokhye lived mainly in Tokyo, although there is a monument in Izuhara due to her marriage to the lord of Tsushima.

Kasumaki, a specialty of Tsushima, is a soft bread filled with sweet bean paste that can be enjoyed by people of all ages, including those who like bread and sweets.
The color of the filling inside varies depending on the type of bean, but unless you have a sensitive palate, you won't notice much of a difference in taste.
However, locals are said to have mixed feelings about black and white bean paste, so if you can, try both.

This is a small but sparkling beach selected as one of the '100 Best Coasts in Japan'.
The first time I saw it, I thought, 'It's smaller than I thought~', the second time I went, I thought, 'It's nice because it's small', and the third time I went, I thought, 'Was it really this pretty?' The more I look at it, the more I love it.
Although it is a bit far for hikers to walk and a bit disappointing to take a taxi, Miuda Beach is still a must-see attraction.

This is an observation deck where you can view Manggwan Bridge and Aso Bay.
If you are traveling by rental car, you can drive up to the Manzeki Observatory parking lot.
The observation deck is visible right from the parking lot.
Hikers can follow the signs across from the Manzeki bus stop and walk up the road.
You can get there in about 10 minutes.
The road leading up to the observatory is narrow and only allows one car to pass, so drive with caution.

Soba made from buckwheat grown in the clear waters of Tsushima is called Daishu Soba.
Most shops in Tsushima still make noodles by hand, not by machine, and you can experience this process.
This is a great experience for families traveling with children, as they get to taste their own soba noodles, made with only 100% buckwheat flour and water, after a process of about an hour.

Publisher's Review
A customized guidebook for Korean travelers
Author Kwon Ye-na began traveling to Japan after participating in an advertising project for the Japan National Tourism Organization and has now established herself as a Japan travel expert.
During my time covering Jeju Island, I traveled alone, with friends, and sometimes with my mother, and was able to capture my diverse travel styles in one book.
I searched for famous restaurants and local recommendations from a traveler's perspective, and worked tirelessly day and night to provide objective evaluations, not based on other people's opinions.
Tsushima Island is an island that connects Korea and Japan, and is deeply connected in nature and culture. You can learn about its history and find useful, yet informative, reading material.
Well begun is half the battle! Thorough travel preparation
The first part of the book helps you prepare for your trip through mission, inside, and plan pages.
The mission presents the must-see things to do, taste, and buy in Tsushima Island, and Inside is filled with basic information about Tsushima Island, including the four seasons, festivals, and tourist information centers, which are useful to know before departure.
The plan page provides schedules that can be selected based on the travel period, whether you are a pedestrian or rental car traveler, or traveling with children or parents.
Also, let's compare the pros and cons of package tours and independent travel introduced in the book and draw the outline of a trip to Tsushima Island.
Walking, cycling, bus, and rental car are all OK
If you want to explore various places but are not confident about renting a car, refer to 'Traveling to a small town by bus' on TriPage.
It includes bus routes and timetables centered around major tourist attractions, and also suggests the optimal schedule based on bus times.
In addition, you can enjoy various experiences such as staying at a local home, camping, making soba noodles, hot springs, horseback riding, kayaking, and fishing.
When traveling in Japan and using a rental car, useful map codes can be found in the information section of each spot.
We have provided map codes for parking lots near or at the destination to help rental car travelers, and have also carefully included precautions for everything from reservations to use and return.
One step at a time towards Tsushima Island
Most travelers from Korea to Tsushima Island take a boat from Busan.
The book introduces precautions that travelers using ships should know before boarding.
In addition to comparing currently operating ships, we urge you to be aware of cancellations and port changes.
Additionally, the transportation from Busan Station to Busan Port, terminal use, immigration, and duty-free shop use are all explained in detail.
From advice from experienced travelers for new travelers just contemplating a trip to Tsushima Island to the charms of Tsushima Island as told by locals, discover them all in "Tsushima Island Self-Travel."
