John Maxwell's Leadership Lessons
Description
Book Introduction
John Maxwell, the greatest mentor of our time, chosen by 6 million global leaders!
A true leader draws people to his side without the power of position.

True leadership is the ability to gather people who voluntarily respect and dedicate themselves to you, regardless of their position, and to develop leaders who can fulfill their roles even when you are away, thereby dramatically increasing the power of the organization.
No matter how high your position, if you don't have the influence to inspire others, you can't be considered a true leader.
If you are such a leader, you and the organization you belong to will soon sink below the surface.

John Maxwell, a world-renowned leadership expert, developed the 'Five Levels of Leadership' through extensive experience and extensive research, and has trained diverse individuals in over 120 countries.
In fact, his teachings have helped many people become true leaders and significantly improved the performance of their organizations.

Into the book
The conclusion I've reached is that leadership is influence.
When people can increase their influence over others, they can lead them more effectively.
The impact of leadership began to crystallize in my mind over time.
It took five years to develop that idea, and the result is '5 Levels of Leadership.'

--- p.11

As you move up the ladder, you become more effective at leading people because your influence increases as you move up the ladder.
As your influence increases, more people will easily follow you.
If your influence is limited, your leadership is limited.
As influence grows, so does effectiveness.
This is common sense.
One downside, however, is that rising to the upper echelons of leadership is not easy.
If it were easy, who wouldn't be a Level 5 leader?

--- p.24

If you've been leading from Level 1 and relying on your position or title to solve problems, are you destined to stay there forever? Absolutely not.
Any leader willing to change the way they lead at Level 1 can learn to lead differently and climb the leadership ladder.
How do you make the most of your leadership position as you move from positional to relational leadership?
--- p.79

Being in a relationship is an adventure, like falling in love and opening yourself up.
Obviously, you can always defend yourself and never get hurt.
But you will never have the opportunity to have deep, valuable relationships that will enrich your life and the lives of others.
I hope you choose to build relationships.
I made that choice early in my leadership career, and although I was hurt and often exploited by others, I don't regret it.
Most people respect my relationships, treat me right, and add great value to me.
--- p.124

If your goal is to help people, improve your team, and achieve your organization's vision, this is the path you should follow as a leader.
There's one more thing I want to remind you of when you're working with people and having honest conversations.
Honesty is a give and take.
If you want to be an effective leader and move to Step 2, you must make sure that the people you work with are honest with you.
You need to ask for feedback.
And you have to be mature and stable enough to accept people's criticism with an open mind and learn from it.
Caring for people, making good decisions for your constituents, and building strong relationships are all things Stage 2 is all about.
This is the pinnacle of relational leadership.
--- p.145

When an organization maintains high morale and productivity over a long period of time under the guidance of a good leader, it gains momentum that is every leader's best friend.
Momentum helps leaders do whatever they do more easily.
That's why I call momentum 'the great hype machine.'
Without momentum, everything feels harder than expected, but with momentum, everything becomes much easier.
--- p.172

This is why most leaders only lead those who follow.
People who can maintain good relationships with others, create personal success, and present a vision are capable of gathering followers.
But it is much more difficult to get other leaders to follow you, develop them, and lead them.
Therefore, most leaders are unwilling to put in the enormous effort or dedication that is absolutely necessary for it.
--- p.246

One of the most important things a Level 5 leader can do is to give other leaders opportunities at the highest level.
Most leaders aim to create a large following.
But gathering such people does not provide opportunities for other leaders.
Leaders at the Gru stage must make a special effort to create such opportunities.
But it starts with the 4 steps of leader development.
By doing this consistently whenever possible and giving leaders opportunities to develop good leaders, you can create a positive cycle of change in your organization.
In some ways, it may seem counterintuitive.
Wouldn't having more leaders reduce such opportunities? Absolutely not.
That's because when you develop leaders who develop other leaders, you create more opportunities at the top level, increasing the size and capacity of the entire organization.
--- p.302

Publisher's Review
The definitive leadership theory for success!
If you want to be an influential, respected, and successful leader
Pay attention to the five levels of leadership he presents.

The five stages of leadership presented by John Maxwell in this book are as follows:

- Level 1 Positional Leadership: A level where people follow you by using their given position.
- Level 2 Relationship Leadership: Building trust so that people follow voluntarily.
- Level 3 Performance Leadership: The level at which people follow by creating organizational performance.
- Level 4 Talent Development Leadership: A level where members develop into leaders and lead the organization together.
- Level 5 Guru Leadership: A level of respect achieved through outstanding leadership and character proven over a long period of time.

From Level 1, the lowest and most introductory level of leadership, to Level 5, the highest and most difficult, Guru Leadership, we cover in detail the positive and negative aspects of each level, the best actions to take at each level, and the beliefs that will help you ascend to the next level.
As you build a following based on trust, and as you grow and develop them as well as yourself, you will experience explosive influence.
Through this book, you will gain insight into leadership, experience the joy of growth, and ultimately become a top-notch leader respected by everyone.
