Publisher's Review
The eternal bestseller of our time, "Ants"
Meet again with a new face

"Ants," which created a sensation and became a monumental bestseller upon its publication, is meeting readers again with a new face.
This story, which contains the fascinating aspects of humanity seen through the eyes of tiny creatures called ants and the grand adventure of traveling between the ant and human worlds, still guarantees originality, imagination, and fun that no other work can surpass.
This work, which introduced the young French genius writer Bernard Werber to Korea, marked a milestone in Korean publishing history and marked the beginning of Werber's journey to become Korea's most beloved writer.

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the publication of the Korean edition, 『Ants』 has been redesigned with a new format and binding, maintaining the original charm while presenting a lighter, more modern book design.
The content has also been revised to reflect spelling changes over time, and various knowledge information has also been newly reviewed.

Ants and Humans, Imagination that Crosses Species
The birth of a completely new story

Jonathan Wells heads to the basement of the mansion he inherited from his uncle, Edmond Wells, to uncover its secrets, and a series of disappearances follow him.
A mysterious group of pursuers pursues the ants as they try to uncover the truth about the dangers looming over the ant kingdom of Belokang.
And interspersed among these fascinating stories is a mysterious book filled with ingenious knowledge: The Encyclopedia of Relative and Absolute Knowledge.
Beginning with these three exciting and completely different stories, "Ants" unfolds a suspenseful adventure that crosses between the ant kingdom and human society.

From Part 1, "Ants," which follows ants and humans as they pursue the dangers that befall their respective worlds and discover each other's existence along the way, to Part 2, "The Day of the Ants," which depicts the conflict and violence caused by the direct encounter between ants and humans, and their efforts to seek reconciliation between species, to Part 3, "The Ant Revolution," which tells the story of people who are inspired by ants and try to start an ant revolution, Berber leads readers without hesitation to the grand finale of this vast and vivid action film with elaborate mystery, grand scale, and genius imagination.

In addition to a story that keeps you on the edge of your seat until the very end, the meticulous descriptions based on extensive research into ant ecology and the novel perspective of depicting the human world through the eyes of ants provide a completely new experience of reading a story never seen before.
The solid scientific knowledge contained in the work and the shift in thinking that reverses the way we view humans and other species give the work a fresh charm that does not fade with time.
Beyond simply composing scientific facts into a novel, "The Ants" emphasizes the need to understand and coexist with other species and to move beyond a human-centric perspective, prompting reflection on human attitudes toward the world.

The fun of the story remains, but the information is more accurate.
A revised edition reflecting the changing times

This revised edition doesn't just change the appearance of the book.
Considering that 30 years have passed, we have re-examined the names of hundreds of plants and animals, scientific names, units of measurement, spelling, etc. that appear in the work, and reflected any changes that have occurred in the meantime.

For example, we checked all scientific name information to correct errors and reflect the latest information, such as changing the scientific name of the common ant from Doryline annoma to Dorylus nigricans, the Argentine ant from Irydomyrmex humilis to Linepithema humile, and the common ant from Anergates atratulus to Tetramonium atratulum. We also looked again at changes in chemical element names such as manganese (← manganese) and fluorine (← fluorine), and changes in biological classification such as the case of the stick insect (Orthoptera → Coleoptera) and the heath (Rhodonidae → Azaleas).

Also, if there are any names that are commonly used in Korean in the meantime, such as black ants (← red ants), hairy ants (← black ants), naked mole rats (← African moles), comb-whiskered beetles (← soft beard beetles), white terns (← Jijis), soap flowers (← saponer), thick-legged powder mites (← tyroglyph), hornbeams (← charmeuse), and red fire ants (← chim ants), we have reflected those as faithfully as possible.
These points were checked not only in the main text but also in the extensive annotations that shine with translator Lee Se-wook's meticulousness, and the story was reworked to convey more accurate knowledge while maintaining the fun of the story.
