Description
Book Introduction
Words like three meals a day that make you feel comfortable and secure while writing
To my sons and daughters who are anxious even though they pour everything out
Park Hye-ran, a feminist scholar who has been speaking and writing about women, family, childcare, and aging for 40 years.
His thoughts and philosophy are as unwavering as his consistent footsteps.
There's a reason why Korean women call him 'Mentor'.
As all three sons, including singer Lee Juck, entered Seoul National University, there was a constant stream of love calls from those who wanted to learn the know-how of 'raising children freely and trusting and waiting for them.'
I couldn't ignore their anxiety even though I was pouring my all into it, so I stood on the podium about 3,000 times.
Every time I meet them, I get energy, so when I stand on the podium, I don't even know I'm sick or tired. It's an energy booster.
"To You Who Has Turned Fifty" is a new work after five years.
As his three sons are now in their fifties, the author, who has entered a new phase of life, has compiled into a book a message for all the sons and daughters in the world who have just turned fifty or are approaching it.
In addition to the messages I wanted to convey in my previous works, I also weave together new realizations I have gained as I grow older, offering sympathy and comfort to my juniors, who are like my children in the age of centenarians.
He pats you on the back, saying that you are already doing well enough and that you can live as you have been living so far.

Into the book
I forgot that each day I live is a new day in my life, and I thought that life would be boring and meaningless without some new event.
It's so foolish to only be able to experience the newness of everyday life again after turning seventy.
I'm looking forward to what will happen tomorrow, the first day I've ever lived.
--- p.56
Everyone blames their parents.
That doesn't mean everyone doesn't love their parents.
With very few exceptions, most children love and sometimes respect their parents.
And sometimes I resent it.
--- p.116
Marriage may be a process of constantly confirming the differences between two aliens.
At first, we firmly believed that 'we are one', but after countless conflicts, we finally came to the conclusion that 'we are two'.
Compared to the differences between men and women, differences in personality, habits, and hobbies seem to be extremely minor.
--- p.140
My thoughts began to change little by little around the time I realized that I had grown older without even realizing it.
At least I realized that it wasn't just older people, but I was getting older.
I had to admit that I too could be over forty and over fifty.

Publisher's Review
The words of feminist scholar Park Hye-ran, each one engraved in your heart.
As always, Park Hye-ran's writing is filled with jewel-like messages, refined through everyday language to resonate deeply with the heart.
It rolls out words so raw that it is difficult to be honest anymore, and it comes right into the middle of life and blows a cool breeze.
As I write down words that give sympathy and comfort to my bitter heart, and relief and confidence to my anxious heart, I find myself feeling at ease and secure, and smiling without even realizing it.
These are words like three meals a day.
“I did that too.
Just knowing that there is an 'adult' there who says, "I just stumbled and managed to walk all the way here," gives me the strength to live tomorrow again.
That is Park Hye-ran's power.
● Note
『To You Who Are Fifty』 was produced in two versions: an essay version and a manuscript version.
The manuscript version was handwritten and composed by selecting passages that the author wanted to engrave in his heart, while the essay version is richer in the author's sincere message.
