Book Introduction
A word from MD
Change the environment.
Your life will change too
“Fools only work hard, while smart people change their environment.” The author emphasizes that what is needed for success is not more effort, passion, or will, but a change in environment, and presents the optimal strategy for breaking away from the familiar environment that is blocking a better life and achieving success more quickly and surely.
July 13, 2018. Self-Development PD Kim Hyun-joo
Smart people don't rely on willpower.
They reset the conditions of their lives to an environment that attracts success!

Why do goals like quitting drinking, quitting smoking, dieting, and learning English only last three days? Is it a matter of genetics and habits? Or is it simply a lack of effort? The answer is no! The problem isn't within us, but rather the misdirection of our passion in the wrong places and ways.
What we need for growth is not only will, effort, and passion, but also a 'change in environment'.
While existing self-help books have prescribed "personal willpower and attitude change" for change and success, "Where the Best Change Begins" fundamentally overturns the solutions to success that have been considered common sense and presents a provocative argument.
The author of this book reveals the core secret in the book, saying, “If you change the environment and conditions of your life, you can easily change without much effort.”

This book contains the author's secret to overcoming a dark and hopeless childhood due to an unfortunate family history and becoming a completely different person.
If you really want to grow, if you want to succeed faster, move into a better environment rather than just being determined.
You will experience dazzling changes.

It teaches you how to intentionally create an environment that helps you achieve what you want.
It also explains how the environment affects us and changes our lives, and the reasons for this, through various theories and examples.
From small changes in habits or routines to those seeking a paradigm shift in their lives, this book will provide easier and more effective solutions for change.

Into the book
Let's remember the widely quoted statement by author and speaker Jim Rohn: "We are the average of the five people we spend most of our time with."
We are also the average of the other five people with whom each of those five people spends most of their time.
If your friends' friends are gaining weight, your chances of gaining weight to an unhealthy level also increase dramatically.
…environment affects every aspect of our lives, from our income to our values, our waist size, and even our hobbies.
Your potential is determined by the environment that surrounds you.
Every thought you have is a result of the thoughts you have accepted.
Who you become and what kind of life you live are limited by the people around you and the information you consume.
If you put in worthless information, you will get worthless results.
_[1.
All heroes are products of circumstance]

You can never be fully prepared for any problem you encounter in life.
The leap into a new environment is more of an instinct than a will, almost like a survival mechanism.
You can adapt to new roles and new environments immediately.
Therefore, you don't have to try to become a certain person in advance to have all the qualifications.
Instead, create an environment that will empower you to become that person.
_[2.
How Your Environment Shapes You]

In my case, the inside of my car is my own space, a sanctuary of my daily life.
This only happens when you park far away from home.
So every morning I drive out of the house and park in a different neighborhood, or I go to the gym a little early and park in front of the gym.
Then, I read a good book, write in my journal, pray, and meditate for about 20 to 30 minutes.
This time invariably inspires me and moves me in the direction of the life I want.
Also, about two or three times a month, I drive a few hours to find a place that is personally meaningful or where I can completely disconnect from the world.

_[5.
[Create your own sanctuary]

If you find yourself snacking in the middle of the night, small changes, such as eating with your left hand if you're right-handed, can help curb the urge.
…addiction, like any other behavior, is influenced by the environment.
In some situations, addiction is the default choice, but in others, addiction is not even a choice.
Even smokers can go for hours without even thinking about smoking when engaging in certain activities or in certain situations.
Most smokers admit that they do not experience strong cravings to smoke while flying.
Because in that situation, smoking is not an option.

Publisher's Review
If you want the best change, passion, effort, and will are not the answer.
The answer to change and growth lies in the 'environment and situation' we are in!

The resolutions we make every year, such as quitting drinking, smoking, dieting, exercising, and studying English, always end up lasting only three days.
Is that all?
We have tried to change and constantly challenge ourselves to become better, but our efforts have not lasted and have ended in failure.
Why is this so? Is it a lack of determination and will? Is it a matter of genetics and habits? Or is it simply a lack of effort? The answer is no.
The problem is that we have been pouring our passion into the wrong places and in the wrong ways.
What we need for growth is not will, effort, or passion, but a 'change in environment.'

No matter how strong a person's willpower and patience are, they will eventually be swept away by the influence of their environment as time goes by.
The key is to change your environment to one that is helpful to you and to reconfigure it to fit the direction of your growth.
If you want to focus on your work, you need to remove all distractions from your workspace.
If you want to stay healthy, you need to get rid of unhealthy foods from your refrigerator.
If you want to get creative ideas, you need to go out of town for a day or two and relax.
Even if you look up at the sky to see Pluto with the naked eye, you won't be able to see it.
In such cases, instead of willpower and a positive mindset, you need to use a tool called a high-powered telescope.

This book teaches you how to intentionally create an environment that helps you achieve what you want.
It also explains how the environment affects us and changes our lives, and the reasons for this, through various theories and examples.
From small changes in habits or routines to those seeking a paradigm shift in their lives, this book will provide easier and more effective solutions for change.

The author had an alcoholic father, a drug-addicted brother, and a gaming addiction…
A book filled with the secrets to overcoming an unfortunate family history and starting a new life!

When the author was eleven, his parents divorced, his father became an alcoholic, his younger brother became a drug addict, and he became addicted to gaming.
After living like that for 20 years, one day the author packs his backpack and sets off for the other side of his hometown.
The author, who lived a different life away from his usual environment for two years, had an amazing experience.
Due to an unfortunate family history, he had a dark and hopeless childhood, but by changing his environment, he was able to escape from it and become a completely different person.
Through this experience, I realized that it was not my will or attitude, but my environment that made such a dramatic change possible.
This book is a concise compilation of the author's practical experiences from his own life and the results of over ten years of research.
Jim Rohn said, “We become the average of the five people we associate with most.” Charles Darwin said, “It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent, but rather the most intelligent.”
“The species that survives best adapts to change,” he said.
This means that the environment a person is in is important.
Mencius's mother moved three times for her children's education, and trees grow well in places with good soil and ample sunlight and wind.

What does 'environment' mean?
The author defines the environment as follows:
“We all have internal environments, external environments, and interpersonal environments.
However, in this book, the concept of environment is used as the external environment rather than the internal environment.
For example, it refers to your physical surroundings, the people you choose to associate with, the information you take in, the food you eat, the music you listen to, etc.”
Our lives are a product of our thoughts and choices.
But where do those thoughts and choices come from? They're the result of planting and nurturing specific environmental factors in the garden of our minds: the books we've read, the experiences we've had, the people we've been around.
If you want to settle for the status quo and live as is, you should choose the familiar. However, if you want true growth and change, you should strive to meet people who have a positive influence on you and foster an environment that stimulates growth.

The space I live in, the people I meet, the information I come across, the food I eat…
We ourselves and our lives are products of the environments we choose!

Humans are not fixed, unchanging beings.
Psychologically, intellectually, emotionally, and spiritually, environment is far more important than genetics.
If you decide what kind of person you want to be and reset your environment accordingly, you can easily get what you want.
Furthermore, we can use the energy we put in to make efforts elsewhere.
Now, set a goal for what you want! Then, eliminate the surrounding environment and noise that hinder you from achieving it, and set your environment in the best possible place to achieve what you want! Then, as the author suggests, you can move toward your desired goal more easily, quickly, and with greater certainty, without blaming your own weak willpower.
