Epilepsy Diary
Description
Book Introduction
Recommended by author Jeong Se-rang!
A true story of epilepsy that bravely confronts entrenched prejudice.

“I suffered from epilepsy for four years during my teenage years, and I always remember that time as a time of loneliness.
As I read "Epilepsy Diary," I felt the loneliness that had been building up for so long slowly melt away.
I envision people who will read this book, give it as a gift, and connect with each other firmly without misunderstanding.
Excellence may not be common, but imagine how wonderful it would be if there were a book this accurate and thoughtful for every complex and difficult disease.
“I would like to express my gratitude to the author who has been actively pursuing a future where people will not be lonely just because their brains have slightly different electrical signals, and to everyone who has been with me through this book.”
_Jeong Se-rang (novelist)

The author of Owl Prescription, who has been a hot topic on social media for her honest and humorous epilepsy story, "Epilepsy Diary," has been published by Wisdom House.
From basic information like "What is epilepsy?" to symptoms that appear when a seizure occurs, side effects of medications, factors that patients should pay special attention to such as light stimulation, and even how caregivers should respond when a seizure occurs, it delivers the minimum information you need to know about epilepsy in an easy and fun way.
In particular, the medical information included in the text was directly reviewed by Professor Kim Heung-dong of the Department of Pediatric Neurology at Severance Children's Hospital, who is the president of the Korean Epilepsy Association, and Assistant Professor Shin Hee-jin, an advisory physician to the association.

《Epilepsy Diary》 adds to its specialness by honestly revealing the author's experiences as an epilepsy patient.
Epilepsy is a disease that affects approximately 370,000 people in Korea and is considered one of the three major nervous system diseases along with dementia and stroke, but little is known about it.
Because of the unique symptoms, many patients try to hide their illness, as misunderstandings and social prejudices such as being “possessed by a ghost” or having an “incurable disease” still persist.
In the book, the author, who decided to “stop hiding from myself,” candidly discusses the challenges she faced after being diagnosed with epilepsy, including personality changes caused by unsuitable medication, difficulties in school, and the bullying she faced on a daily basis among her peers.
For readers who feel isolated and wander the ocean of the internet, unable to open up to anyone, "Epilepsy Diary" will serve as a thoughtful guide.

Publisher's Review
From the various types and symptoms of epilepsy to the origin of the disease called 'epilepsy'
Everything you wanted to know about epilepsy but couldn't find!

『Epilepsy Diary』 follows the perspective of the author, a second-year middle school student, and depicts the concerns of those with epilepsy and those around them.
"It's epilepsy.
"You've Heard" covers everything from the first diagnosis to how Emperor lives with epilepsy.
Je-wang, who suffered from temporal lobe epilepsy, suffered from seizures in which “his mind became dizzy, his surroundings changed in an instant, he began to hallucinate, he had a terrible headache, and he even forgot himself” (pp. 29-30).
It also includes an explanation of the different symptoms that appear depending on the type of seizure, such as localized seizures and generalized seizures, and the area where the seizure occurs.
The first medication prescribed after the onset of the disease did not work, resulting in side effects such as excessive aggression, suicidal impulses, and extreme drowsiness.
Due to the aftereffects of epilepsy, my memory, cognitive ability, and spatial perception ability also declined significantly.
However, with sufficient rest, the epilepsy improved and stability gradually returned.

In "What's wrong with him?", the difficult school life of a 'child who has seizures' is honestly revealed.
As rumors spread around the school, teasing the emperor “became a kind of sport” (p. 82), and it was difficult for him to complain of his symptoms because he did not appear to be a “patient.”
As a parent, you can also get a glimpse into the feelings of watching over your child, Je-wang, who has epilepsy.
In a time when information was scarce, Je-wang's parents took care of him by "scouring the entire internet, asking around, and making a lot of effort" (p. 104), at enormous cost.

“So, it’s epilepsy.
"Listen Now" debunks deep-rooted misconceptions about epilepsy with practical, actionable information.
We also take a close look at how to distinguish between cardiac arrest patients and epilepsy patients, the ketogenic diet, and geriatric epilepsy, which presents differently from childhood epilepsy.
From the origin of the disease called 'epilepsy' in the past to the fact that 'jiral' and 'bbangkang', which people use without a second thought, are actually derogatory terms for epilepsy, we have packed in the real story of epilepsy that you have always wanted to know but could not find.
