Into the book
I want to share what I know and what I have learned about football with everyone who loves football.
Especially for those who have yet to experience the power and influence of football, I want to share with you how to succeed and win, and what you can learn from your losses.
Through this, I want to create a structure that can contribute to the world.
I want to ensure that talented athletes from anywhere in the world are discovered and given opportunities.
--- p.38, from “Prologue”
For me, football is truly valuable only when it can make people dream.
I could understand it by watching how they led their teams.
I also have immense respect for players who have their own philosophy about football, express their individuality, and fight without giving in to fear.
That's what I want and aspire to from the players who will play for my club.
Understanding what makes a player tick, understanding his fears and anger, figuring out what skills he brings to the team, and always respecting and listening to other coaches—that's what I felt and learned during those years.
--- p.72, from “A Young Man Who Was a Soccer Player”
Training improves the abilities of athletes while allowing them to express themselves as individuals and as a group.
I knew each player's weaknesses and thought about how I could bring them to the highest level.
At the same time, I had very high expectations for all the players.
A manager must be able to connect emotionally with his players while also being able to make cool-headed decisions.
And to maintain trust as a manager, you must never lose the power to decide on player selection.
The moment you think a coach or president is involved in player selection, that manager has already lost the players' trust.
A manager must always be able to have two-way communication with his players.
--- p.106, from “Monaco”
It is also important to create a culture that values performance.
In other words, it is a culture in which the club's leaders and players continually ask themselves the following questions:
'How can I improve further?' 'Have I reached my full potential?' 'What will it take to reach my full potential?' These are the key ingredients for unquestionable success.
These standards help players learn more about themselves, identify their weaknesses, and learn how to overcome them, ultimately helping them reach higher levels.
Such players have a balanced mix of high intelligence and motivation.
--- p.174, from “My Home, Life at Arsenal”
I often look back on that 49-game unbeaten run.
I'm a bit superstitious, and I once thought that being born in 1949 meant I was destined to lose my 50th game.
Those 49 games are deeply engraved in my mind and in the minds of all the players.
It was a symbol of victory born from passion.
I've since built teams that could have achieved similar results, but they were lacking something.
It's easy to understand when you compare the quality of the players, their football intelligence, and the luck we've had.
--- p.196, from “Undefeated Championship”
If we had won that final, it would have been the icing on the cake, marking the end of an undefeated championship, a new stadium, and the great players who had been with us along the way.
The challenge did not end properly.
Arsenal have not won the Champions League since.
Now Arsenal have become a club where it is expected to be like that.
Arsenal are now in a healthy financial position, but once again they must make the best decisions for the club's technical side.
If I were to express the gap between what I dreamed of and reality as regret, then of course I have great regrets.
But I am the kind of person who would have no regrets if I won every competition.
--- p.214~215, from “Leaving Highbury and Building the Emirates”
I also recruited South Korean striker Park Joo-young.
Because he played well in Monaco and was a player with a good attitude.
I don't think he showed his talents enough at Arsenal.
His talent was unquestionable.
However, there were some areas where he lacked confidence.
He didn't get the chance to turn things around at Arsenal, to show that he was good enough to play for Arsenal.
Maybe I didn't give him enough opportunities to prove himself.
--- p.238~239, from “My Life and a New Era at Arsenal”
A director is someone who always pursues the best and the best.
You have to take the initiative yourself, pay attention to all the players, and not ignore even the smallest details.
We must also demand the best from our players and encourage them to continue to improve.
Coaches must understand that even the best players can't always perform at 100%, and they must encourage their players to push their limits.
Especially for those who have yet to experience the power and influence of football, I want to share with you how to succeed and win, and what you can learn from your losses.

My football life revealed for the first time
Arsene Wenger is one of the most famous managers in the Premier League, having led Arsenal to unprecedented glory while managing 1,235 games over 22 years from 1996 to 2018.
During this period, Arsenal won the Premier League three times, the FA Cup seven times, and the Community Shield seven times.
Among them, the 49-game unbeaten run from May 2003 to October 2004 was the first in the Premier League, and the undefeated championship in the 2003-04 season achieved during the same period was also a record that was achieved for the first time in 115 years.
Wenger, who led Arsenal, which boasted such a formidable power at the time that it was called 'The Invincible', created the best team by implementing innovative ideas such as an innovative approach to football, a keen eye for selecting excellent talent, and the importance of scientific management of non-playing aspects such as diet, and also played a major role in developing the Premier League into the best league in the world.
This book is the only autobiography in which Wenger first compiles his football life, faithfully chronicling the process of his childhood memories when he first fell in love with football, and the systematic formation of his own philosophy on football during his career as a player and coach.
