무너진다.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e미국의 선교사들이 전수하기 시작한 기독교는 칼뱅주의에 기반한 개신교파들이었다.\u003cbr\u003e칼뱅주의는 중세봉건 사회가 무너지면서 말세적인 상황에 빠져버린 유럽을 근대로 이끈다.\u003cbr\u003e스코틀랜드의 칼뱅주의자들은 장로교를 설립하여 사회를 개혁하고 ‘스코틀랜드 계몽주의’의 초석을 놓는다.\u003cbr\u003e네덜랜드의 칼뱅주의자들은 1588년 네덜란드 공화국을 건국하고 세계에서 가장 부유한 나라를 건설한다.\u003cbr\u003e‘청교도’라 불린 잉글랜드의 칼뱅주의자들은 청교도 혁명을 이끌었고 신대륙으로 건너가 미합중국을 세운다.\u003cbr\u003e칼뱅주의와 복음주의로 무장한 채 조선으로 건너온 선교사들은 추상적인 신학을 전파한 것이 아니라 조선의 일상을 개혁하는데 뛰어든다.\u003cbr\u003e유교가 악이고 이단이라고 설파 하면서 조선의 국교인 주자성리학과 일체의 타협을 불허 한다.\u003cbr\u003e고려 말에 도입된 주자성리학이 1,000년 국교였던 불교에 정면으로 도전하였듯이 조선 말에 도입된 개신교는 조선의 국교인 주자성리학에 정면으로 도전한다.\u003cbr\u003e「문명 충돌」이었다.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e한편 청은 ‘자강운동’을 통하여 개혁을 꾀하는 한편 노련한 외교를 통해 조선에 대한 종주권을 유지한다.\u003cbr\u003e일본은 부국강병책을 통하여 눈부신 발전을 거듭한다.\u003cbr\u003e1890년대에 들어서면서 조선의
