기쁨이 될 수 없다.\u003cbr\u003e우리의 미래인 노인의 얼굴에서 웃음을 되찾지 않으면 안 된다.\u003cbr\u003e그래서 주민의 대부분이 노인인 세토내해의 섬들에서 현대미술을 도구 삼아 ‘노인이 웃는 얼굴로 살 수 있는’ 지역을 만들고자 애쓰고 있다.\u003cbr\u003e(...)기업활동의 목적은 ‘문화’이며, ‘경제는 문화에 종속’되어야 한다.\u003cbr\u003e현대 사회에서는 수단이 목적화되고 있다.\u003cbr\u003e부를 창조할 수 있는 것은 기업 활동밖에 없다.\u003cbr\u003e그렇다면 그 부의 배분 방법이 문제이며, 세금으로 거둬들이는 것뿐만 아니라 그 일부를 사용해 기업 스스로가 좋은 커뮤니티를 만드는 일에 공헌하는 것은 어떨까.\u003cbr\u003e인간과 기업의 모든 활동은 좋은 커뮤니티를 창조하는 것을 목표로 해야 한다.--- pp.19-20\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e나오시마에는 일반적인 관광지에 있을 법한 그런 요소가 거의 없다.\u003cbr\u003e유적도 없고 온천도 없고 두드러진 경관이 있는 것도 아니다.\u003cbr\u003e극히 일상에 가까운 풍경이 신선하게 펼쳐진다.\u003cbr\u003e하지만 나오시마의 마을과 경치는 그 어디에라도 있을 것 같지만 실은 이미 사라져버린 광경이다.\u003cbr\u003e과거에는 있었지만 지금은 없는, 주변에 있을 것 같지 않은 장소.\u003cbr\u003e게다가 그곳은 도쿄라는 중심으로부터 멀리 떨어져 있어 아무 때나 마음대로 갈 수 없다.\u003cbr\u003e이런 여러 요소들이 잘 짜여 있다.\u003cbr\u003e아티스트들은 나오시마에서 매우 순수한 작업을 하고 있다고 할 수 있다.\u003cbr\u003e그들이 정말로 하고 싶은 것을 환경과 함께 생각하고 그것을 최대한으로 살리는 시도를 할 수 있게끔 한 나오시마와 같은 장소는 세계적으로도 예가 없다.\u003cbr\u003e예술은 빵을 만들어낼 수 없고, 무기를 만들어낼 수도 없다.\u003cbr\u003e그렇지만 예술 작품을 본 후에 자신이나 세상이 무언가 조금 변화한 것처럼 느껴질지도 모른다.\u003cbr\u003e하나의 장소를 열고 미술관을 만들어보고, 그 가능성을 재차 느꼈다.---
