Book Introduction
Among the 'Liberal Korean for International Students' series, international students
By understanding and familiarizing yourself with the general procedures of presentations
A guide to help you develop the ability to present fluently.

As the number of international students at Korean universities has increased recently, interest in their academic abilities has also increased.
There is a significant difference in content and level between Korean for general purposes and Korean for academic purposes required at university.
For international students to have a successful college life, the basic Korean language skills they learned at the Korean Language Institute are not enough for everyday life.
This is because communication that takes place at universities is characterized by being centered on written language in formal situations.
In addition, you need Korean language skills that are sufficient to learn not only general knowledge but also specialized knowledge.
Without these language skills, international students will have difficulty successfully managing their university life.
And above all, to maximize your mathematical abilities in college, it is urgent and essential to develop your academic language skills.

Based on this awareness of the problem, Sungkyunkwan University's undergraduate college developed and released a liberal arts Korean language series for international students.
This textbook aims to help international students successfully complete their university studies.
Since the course is structured around the practical skills needed for academic study along with the Korean communication skills required for university, we believe that both Korean language skills and academic abilities will naturally improve during the course of study.
??Presentation Skills to Develop Speaking Skills?? is designed to help international students gain the ability to present fluently by understanding and familiarizing themselves with the general procedures for presentations in academic discourse situations.

This book differs in content compared to other Korean language textbooks that focus on the traditional process-oriented speaking method.
First, it allowed learners to reflect on how the characteristics of the audience and the purpose of the presentation in academic discourse situations differ from those in general situations.
Second, we made it possible for learners to recognize that paralinguistic and non-verbal elements, which have been overlooked in Korean language textbooks, are important when conveying presentation content.
Third, various slide examples were presented to foster media literacy in effectively producing and utilizing auxiliary materials used during presentations.
Fourth, we aim to improve learners' fluency by providing practice sentences for memorizing various expressions used in presentations.
This textbook was written in the first semester of 2014, when the Korean language intensive course was established in the undergraduate school of Sungkyunkwan University.
By the end of that semester, the textbook was complete, but a semester of heated debate ensued over what classes to teach international students, and after more than two years of hard work on the textbook, it is finally finally seeing the light of day.
We sincerely hope that this textbook series will enhance the academic abilities of international students, enabling them to enjoy their university life in Korea with satisfaction and achieve significant academic success.
