Understanding Korean as a Foreign Language
Description
Book Introduction
Since the 2000s, Korean language education has developed rapidly, and the number of people learning Korean for academic purposes has also increased explosively.
This book was designed to teach Korean grammar and the introduction to Korean as a foreign language to foreign students in a more accessible and friendly manner.
Korean language as a foreign language requires a different approach from that of Korean linguistics, and the author of this book adheres to three principles in writing it.
The first principle is to 'explain the basics simply'.
Even things that can be expressed in a single term are kindly explained by adding wings next to the content.
The second principle is to 'look at Korean from a foreigner's perspective.'
By comparing Korean with a language that learners are familiar with (their native language, second language), we helped them understand the characteristics of the Korean language and examined how Korean differs from their native language from a bilingual perspective.
Learners can understand Korean language through a contrastive linguistics approach through the "Introduction" sections included throughout each chapter, and participate in class independently.
The final principle is to 'make it more accessible so that even non-Korean language majors can teach.'
Through “Preview” and “Check,” instructors can check the learners’ learning progress, and learners can also check what they have learned.
The author sought to provide ‘food for thought’ about the Korean language through ‘Learning’, ‘Exploring’, and ‘Confirming’.
In order to provide practical assistance to foreign learners in understanding and using the Korean language, the order of this book is as follows: Part 1 presents the characteristics of the Korean language and covers the essential topics that must be covered in creating Korean sentences, including sentence elements and sentence types, as well as tenses, honorifics, infinitives, causative and passive voices in Part 2; and Part 3 looks at sentence expansion.
And in Part 4, we covered content related to Korean words, and finally, in Part 5, we looked at content related to Korean speech sounds.
