Into the book
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Pukyung National University Language Education Center's inauguration of Korean language education.
I still vividly remember the day when Daemado High School students began Korean language education upon entering Pukyung National University.
I also remember a Japanese grandfather who said he wanted to read in his own voice a Korean document that was kept as a family heirloom.
I've been anxiously awaiting the day when their passion for learning a new language will be surpassed by their passion for teaching Korean.
As Korea's status rises, the desire to learn Korean is now spreading beyond Asia and reaching the world.
What I always feel while teaching Korean is pride in the Korean language.
It is a source of pride for our Korean language teachers to be at the forefront of introducing Hangul, the language that we are most proud of, to the world.
When we think about the scientific principles and beautiful formative nature of the creation of Hangeul, we can feel the love King Sejong the Great had for his people.
We also share the heartfelt condolences of the pioneers who dedicated their lives to protecting our language, writing, and soul during difficult times.
Currently, at Pukyung National University, over a thousand international students from over 50 countries are diligently preparing for their futures.
To help them, Beginner Korean is now available in 14 languages.
For beginners, we thought they would need help in their native language, so we created it in Korean and in each country's language.
During this process, I received help from many international students and Korean language teachers.
I would like to express my deepest gratitude to everyone who helped me.
In the preparatory stage of each subject, we have made it easy to learn vocabulary through pictures, and we have focused on learning activities that focus on language functions through role-playing.
And after learning the target grammar for each lesson, we made sure to fully master what we learned through confirmation learning.
In addition, we have added cultural content to stimulate interest in Korea.
There are many people who have worked tirelessly to help bring this book to life.
I would like to express my deepest gratitude to Professor Hong Dong-sik of the Department of Design for his wonderful cover design; to Seon Ho-je and Kim Sae-hae for their generous help in introducing the beauty of the Korean language to the world with their gentle voices; to the staff at Sky Planning for their warm illustrations that beautifully enhanced the book; to the Pukyong National University Education Capacity Development Team for their financial support in publishing the book; and to the members of the Public Relations and Cooperation Department and the editorial committee for their tireless assistance with this tedious task.
