Description
Book Introduction
Jeong Yak-yong (1762-1836) was a scholar and government official of the late Joseon Dynasty, whose pen name was Dasan.
If you were to choose the greatest scholar in Korean history, Jeong Yak-yong would be a must-see.
Jeong Yak-yong left behind many outstanding achievements in various fields. Jeong Yak-yong valued Silhak, the study of practical learning necessary for daily life, and was deeply interested in it.
Jeong Yak-yong, a Silhak scholar, believed that it was important to find ways to make the people's lives more convenient and affluent.
So, he studied many fields related to the real lives of the people and achieved great results.
The reason Jeong Yak-yong was able to focus on his research and leave behind such achievements was also because of his long period of exile.
Jeong Yak-yong was exiled and lived alone, away from his family, raising many disciples and focusing on research.
As a result, he was able to leave behind more books than any other scholar.
All the books left behind by Jeong Yak-yong were an expression of his love for the people.
As a scholar and an official, Jeong Yak-yong always thought about what he could do for the people.
And I struggled to find a way to do that.
