Description
Book Introduction
Wonhyo (617-686) was a monk from Silla and one of the most representative monks of Korean Buddhism.
Wonhyo is a name he took after becoming a monk, and means 'first dawn'.
Ambassador is a term of honor used to refer to a monk.
Wonhyo Daesa's original name was 'Seolseodang' or 'Seolsindang'.
Wonhyo devoted all his energy to teaching and spreading profound knowledge about Buddhism to people.
So even today, many of the books he wrote about Buddhism are still being passed down.

Wonhyo began to question life and death when his beloved parents and grandfather passed away at an early age.
Wonhyo became a monk to find the answer to that question in Buddhism.
Wonhyo studied the Buddha's teachings through Buddhist scriptures, met his teacher, and attained enlightenment.
And he lived his life practicing those teachings and enlightenment in the lives of the people.

The era in which Wonhyo lived was one of constant war.
In the end, Silla won the war, but the people's lives did not improve.
In this situation, Wonhyo wanted to live with the people and bring peace to their hearts.
So, unlike most monks at the time who lived like nobles in large temples, they traveled around rural villages and streets to spread Buddhism.

Wonhyo did not neglect his studies on Buddhism.
I studied difficult books on Buddhist teachings all night long.
And he taught it to the people in a way that they could easily understand.
It was different from other monks who only considered their own studies and prayers important.
For this reason, he became a great monk who is not forgotten in the history of Korean Buddhism to this day.
