Classical Korean poetry
Classical Korean poetry
Description
Book Introduction
This book introduces eight classical Korean poems.
Classical poetry is an 'old song'.
Because it has many more characteristics of a song than a modern poem, it is not called 'classical poetry', but rather 'classical poetry' with the word 'ga' meaning song added to it.
Classical poetry clearly expresses the thoughts and feelings of ancient Korean people.
The format for expressing these thoughts and feelings may feel a little unfamiliar to people today.
However, to understand the basis of the thoughts and feelings that Koreans have had since ancient times, it is good to read classical poetry.

In Korea, there were many different types of poetry during different periods.
There are many forms of classical poetry that have been passed down, including 'ancient songs' whose original form is unknown, 'hyangga' of Silla, 'sokyo' of the Goryeo Dynasty, and 'sijo' and 'gasa' of the Joseon Dynasty.
In this book, we will select and introduce ancient songs, hyangga, folk songs, and sijo.
The original form of classical poetry is often difficult for Koreans to understand even when reading it.
There are many works that are difficult to read because they are written in Chinese characters or in an old form of Korean.
Therefore, this book is written and explained in an easy-to-understand manner using modern Korean.
