≪Heartlessness≫ is the first full-length novel in the history of modern Korean literature.
This work was serialized in a newspaper for six months and made the author, Lee Gwang-su, famous.
Because “Heartlessness” is a long novel, it was divided into two volumes.
≪Heartless 1≫ contains the story of the main characters, Hyeong-sik and Yeong-chae, who were separated when they were young, meeting again, experiencing conflict, and having an unfortunate breakup.
≪Heartless 2≫ contains the story of the main characters, Hyeong-sik and Yeong-chae, each finding their own path in life and reconciling.
Through this work, the author shows the youth of the time who wanted to change the old system of Joseon and accept a new civilization and order.
