Jang Gi-ryeo (1911-1995) was born in Yongchon, North Pyongan Province.
I promised God that if I became a doctor, I would dedicate my life to helping the sick and poor.
And he devoted his life to helping poor patients as a dedicated doctor.
He established a free hospital for the poor who wanted to live long lives.
He also created the Blue Cross Medical Insurance Association to enable poor people to receive treatment at hospitals.
The Blue Cross Health Insurance Association later laid the foundation for the establishment of a national health insurance system in Korea. Jang Gi-reo was separated from his family due to the war.
So, I lived my life dedicating my longing and love for my family to patients.
Jang Gi-ryeo always shared what he had with those in need.
People remember Jang Gi-ryeo's beautiful life and honor his will.
