Publisher's Review
〈Everyday Korean for Beginners 1〉 is an integrated Korean textbook that links speaking/listening/reading/writing skills, aimed at international undergraduate and graduate students with no Korean language learning experience or only 1-2 months of learning experience.
This book is a customized textbook that takes into account the university semester schedule and aims to help students learn basic communication skills by learning Korean and the vocabulary, expressions, and grammar necessary for daily life.
This book features:
First, the content was organized by selecting vocabulary and grammar according to the International Korean Language Standard Curriculum (2017).
Second, it is suitable for use as a textbook for one semester in college.
The course content is structured to fit the typical undergraduate and graduate course schedule (15 weeks, 30 or 45 hours).
Third, what you learn in the textbook can be used immediately outside the classroom.
Rather than just using expressions from books, we've designed learning content that students can use in real-life situations, such as at school, convenience stores, restaurants, and coffee shops.
Fourth, it is possible to conduct learning activities that embody the cognitive processes that occur when speaking a foreign language.
When foreign learners speak in Korean, they first think in their native language and then go through a cognitive process of converting it into Korean.
Reflecting on this, we have created 'You and I Talk Talk,' a learning activity where you view English dialogues and translate them into Korean.
This activity can be used as a speaking or writing activity, at the instructor's discretion.
Fifth, we have increased the convenience of both learners and instructors by providing both Korean and English.
By using English, the international language, to explain all the content of the textbook, learners can understand it more easily, and instructors can use it as an auxiliary tool to easily teach beginner learners who have difficulty communicating.
Sixth, this textbook was written by an expert with extensive experience in Korean language education.
The author has over 10 years of experience teaching Korean language at university-affiliated Korean language education institutions and in undergraduate and graduate school settings, and thus has a keen understanding of what is needed in the Korean language education field.
Based on this, we have written teaching materials tailored to the needs of teachers and learners of various nationalities.
I would like to thank my parents for their support in making “Daily Korean Beginner 1” possible, and God for guiding me step by step from the beginning until now.
I would also like to express my gratitude to the staff at Park Young Publishing for giving me the opportunity to publish this book and for meticulously editing it to enhance its quality.
