Chinese characters in Korean
Chinese characters in Korean
Description
Book Introduction
It is no exaggeration to say that the success of Korean language education lies in expanding the vocabulary of Korean language learners.
Korean vocabulary is composed of three types of words: native Korean words, foreign words, and Chinese characters. Among them, Chinese characters make up the largest proportion of Korean vocabulary.
In particular, documents requiring university major terms or expertise are composed of more than 90% Chinese characters.
To put it a bit exaggeratedly, it can be said that the ability of Korean learners to use Korean depends on their Korean vocabulary, and especially on their ability to understand Sino-Korean words.

Publisher's Review

In order to correctly understand Chinese characters, you must first understand the Chinese characters that make up the Chinese characters.
However, if we look at the Korean language curriculum at Korean language teaching and learning institutions, we can see that there is insufficient Chinese character education for Korean language learners.
Accordingly, this textbook has been designed to enable Chinese character education by making full use of Chinese characters that Korean language learners already know.

This textbook is intended for Korean language learners with a proficiency level equivalent to Level 3 of the Test of Proficiency in Korean, and is designed to minimize the burden of learning Chinese characters for Korean language learners.
First, we selected Chinese characters up to the third level from the International Korean Language Standard Curriculum (2017) and Korean language textbooks from university-affiliated Korean language education institutions, and extracted 45 Chinese character morphemes with high frequency of use from the selected Chinese characters.
And by grouping similar Chinese character morphemes and presenting them with related topics (time, hobbies, etc.), we have made it easier for Korean learners to access Chinese characters.

And the unit was designed so that Korean learners can guess the form and meaning of specific Chinese character morphemes through repeated exposure to words containing specific Chinese character morphemes.
Through these teaching and learning procedures, students can naturally understand that one Chinese character combines with another to form a new word, and further enhance their understanding of Chinese characters.
