This is an advertisement released by Japanese streaming service U-Next, set in the 2021 COVID-19 era.
The paradox that comes to mind first is “in life, there is no time to waste.”
The usefulness of 'uselessness'.
In a modern society that pursues only efficiency and productivity, the argument that we should rediscover the value of 'wasted time' makes us nod.
Watching movies isn't the only thing that seems 'unproductive' but actually enriches our lives.

This ad subtly modulates the tone of the message by changing the word meaning "useless" into kanji (無?) and katakana (ムダ).
The Chinese character 無? gives a serious and reflective atmosphere, and gives the impression of dealing philosophically with meaningless time.
On the other hand, katakana ムダ conveys a lighter and more cheerful feeling, with a visually emphasized effect.

The copy of this online ad, published in the summer of 2009, resonated deeply with readers.

Is it because it seems less sad than 'A Breakup in Broad Daylight'?
For reference, cherry blossoms symbolize 'excitement' in Korea, but in Japan, their short lifespan is compared to the transience of life, symbolizing 'the transience of life.'
Also, the word 鬱陶(うっ/とう)しい, which emphasizes the strong sunlight in this copy, originally means 'a state of being depressed or the weather is gloomy' or 'a state of being bothered by something.'
In this copy, it is used in the latter sense, describing a summer day with the sun shining so brightly that it is tiresome.

突き動かす is a compound verb made up of "突く (to stab) + 動かす (to move)".
The word '突く' contains the meaning of 'to push strongly, to stimulate'.
So, it creates an image that strongly stimulates something deep inside the mind and moves the body or even the actions.
