Novels and Poems That Brighten the Year 2024The Contemporary Literature Award, which introduces valuable novels and poetry to readers every year in early December, celebrated its 70th anniversary.
This year, the novel category was won by novelist Jiyeon Kim, who looks at everyday life from a new perspective, and the poetry category was won by poet Soran Park, who demonstrates the essence of beautiful poetry.
A collection of award-winning works and award-nominated works, all of which are worthy of collection.

Kim Ji-yeon's "Without Love" was selected as the winner and winning work of this year's [Modern Literature Award], the 70th annual award that is the undisputed best literary award in Korea, given to the most brilliant novels and novelists in Korean literature.
The judging was conducted on works published in each literary magazine between the December 2023 and November 2024 issues (quarterly winter 2023 to fall 2024 issues), and the following works were selected as nominees: Koo Byeong-mo's "Mother's Completion," Kwon Yeo-seon's "A Flower in the Empty Room," Song Ji-hyeon's "The Only One Who Can Be Said a Ghost," Lee Ju-hye's "Goodbye Outside the Parentheses," and Choi Jin-young's "Uluru-Kata Tjuta."
Park So-ran's "Today's Poem" was selected as the winner and winning work of this year's [Modern Literature Award], the 70th annual award that is the undisputed best literary award in Korea, given to the most brilliant poets and poets in Korean literature.

If you think about it, what can you do?
How can we avoid the tribulations of time if we do not write?
I wrote and touched it not because poetry was more special than anything else, but because I was there at that time, breathing precariously.
And I forgot that it was poetry.
In a city without a city, there was no city, and that was no longer important.
“Today’s Poem” contains traces of such shaking.
Nevertheless, I hope.
May this poem remain as a record of one person's complete love.
