The setting is the Warring States period, which produced numerous strategists such as Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Tokugawa Ieyasu.

"The King's Shield," which contains the stories of craftsmen known as legends, vividly depicts the clash between the "best shield" and the "strongest spear" of the Warring States period.

The final showdown between the spear and shield that dominated the Warring States period.

Into the book
Stonework is broadly divided into three areas.
First, the detachment.
They are in charge of removing stones, which are the material for stone walls.
It's not like you just pick up any random stone and bring it over.
Stone sizes are roughly graded from 1 to 10, and the number of rows required for each grade must be provided.
The second is the transport tank.
These are the people who quickly move the removed stones to the stonework site.
Moving stones sounds like something anyone can do.
People who don't know say so, but this work is the most difficult of the three areas of stonework.
Mastering the stacking technique takes longer than the other two techniques.
First of all, it takes at least 15 years to learn how to fill the backfill inside a stone wall.
--- p.41
“Doesn’t water flow from higher to lower places?
“Then the water won’t come in?”
That's true.
Eventually, the water that could not pass over the raised ground could not flow into the bowl-shaped hole dug in.
It is impossible to carry water by hand.
It is possible, but if you don't keep pumping water, the water in the pond will dry up quickly.
“Conversely, you can send water from a lower place to a higher place.”
--- p.210
We have been told that we are the creators of death and the sellers of death.
But isn't it the same for those who forge swords?
The same goes for those who sharpen spears, those who draw bows, those who raise war horses, and those who sell military rations.
In these troubled times, it is more difficult to find something unrelated to war.
Yet some things are praised as art, while others are boasted about as not being originally intended for war.
However, firearms are not considered as a craft or hobby, but rather as cumbersome objects that are useless except in war.
I even feel like I've been carrying all the burden of the troubled times.
The same goes for the wall that is believed to be opposite the fort.
It was created for war from the beginning, but it also became a being praised for its beauty.

Publisher's Review
A new king who wants to build a castle that can block any attack.
A gun that aims to break through any defense.
Making the 'best shield' and the 'strongest spear',
A novel depicting the confrontation between two genius craftsmen.
A man who had been teaching dance at a youth dance school for nearly eight years after graduating from college, one day gives a heartless piece of advice to a student who had run away from home due to parental discord: “Don’t give up on your dreams.”
Then, the child who heard the advice looked at me coldly and said this.
“What, you’re giving up on your dream, teacher?” Shocked by those words, the man quits his job as a dance instructor and declares to his students.
“I will prove that you can achieve your dreams even at the age of 30. I will definitely receive the Naoki Prize.”
Then, thinking back to the period novels I had been reading since I was young, I decided to become a period novelist.
I thought I should do something related to historical novels, so I work as a cultural heritage investigator and write in my spare time.
After debuting, he quit his job as a cultural heritage investigator and devoted himself solely to writing novels.
From this time on, he swept various literary awards.
And finally, he won the Naoki Prize for this novel, “The Shield of the New King,” just four years after his debut.
It's more difficult than starting to study now and passing the bar exam.
How on earth could he have won the prize, the so-called "honmaru" of the entertainment novel world, after debuting at the age of thirty, seemingly pushed by a single word from his student?
In an interview with the press immediately after receiving the Naoki Prize, author Shogo Imamura said this:
“I had a vague sense of confidence even before I started writing.
But when I actually tried it, it really worked.
The reason is easy to explain.
Because I read a lot of books.
“When it comes to historical novels, I’ve read enough to be second to none.”
A novel written by an author who prides himself on having read more period novels than anyone else, and praised as “the best period novel you’ve ever read.”
There's no way a period piece could be this entertaining! Series
Light novels are entertainment novels in paperback format with comic illustrations on the cover.
As the decoration on the cover suggests, it would be safe to say that it is a comic book translated into words.
There are some notable features that stand out along with the cover.
The title is long.
For example, something like "Is it okay to try to meet someone in a dungeon?"
As you can guess, the reason light novels have long titles is to attract 'aggro'.
As the number of titles published increased, at some point the number of sentence-style titles began to increase.
There seems to be a lot of controversy among fans about this, but it is true that it has become easier to intuitively understand the content just by looking at the title.
There's no way a period piece could be this fun! The series was created with the hope of breaking the stereotype that "period novels = difficult, and because they're difficult, they must not be fun." And while people might not remember the name anyway, the name "There's no way a period piece could be this fun! Series" means that people won't forget it.
I plan to finish this series with just 10 volumes.
