Teacher Eugene, who quickly became known as the 'English teacher I want to keep to myself' through word of mouth on blogs and YouTube.
The 'secret story' of how the English material posted on her blog circulated like a secret notebook and was eventually published is a well-known fact to her subscribers and students.
The book 『The English Book I Want to Know Alone: Mild Taste』, which was published in this way, received enthusiastic interest and support from readers, leading to the publication of a sequel, Spicy Taste.
If the mild version was a basic skill-building course for adult learners, the spicy version covers English grammar and usage in more depth.

Everyone has a grammar book, but not many people read it all the way through.
Just as you study math, you only read the 'Sets and Propositions' section until you're worn out, so too do you read the English grammar book until you're worn out, only reading the nouns that appear at the very beginning.
It is difficult to sustain studying for the sake of studying.
The author of this book, Eugene, diagnoses the way Koreans use English as follows.
When speaking English, we only worry about whether the sentence we just said is 'grammatically correct' and 'how accurate it is', and we don't care about whether the content of what we said is persuasive enough or how the other person is reacting.
Teacher Eugene has been teaching one-on-one English classes for 13 years, closely observing the English learning difficulties of Korean students, and has gained a thorough understanding of Koreans' English acquisition methods and weaknesses.
This book, completed based on the content of previous lectures, is not a one-sided, rigid grammar book, but the result of long-term interaction with students.
We divided the areas that Korean students find particularly difficult and weak points into stages so that they could study them over multiple sessions.
This book is designed to allow for preview and review of the same content from level 1 to level 3.
The difficulty level is evenly distributed so that not only those who are just starting to study English grammar, but also those who are tired of boring English studies or have given up on starting to study English can all participate.

Also, rather than trying to explain the grammar itself, we tried to include examples that appear in various media.
I brought in a script from the book and had them explain the usage of the word in simple terms or solve practice problems from a scene from the original book.
In addition, through numerous examples, we have helped students naturally acquire the grammar necessary for using vocabulary.
This massive book, spanning two volumes, will be a masterclass that encapsulates Eugene's expertise in English learning spanning over ten years.

Into the book
What I've realized over the past 13 years of teaching English and learning it myself is that grammar isn't all that important when it comes to learning English.
To put it a bit exaggeratedly, there are many cases where you can use a language without having to learn the grammar perfectly.
As I'm putting a grammar book out into the world, and especially at the beginning of it, I'd like to be a little honest about something I don't think I should be saying.
If you want to speak English well, you have no choice but to read a lot and listen a lot.
Simply memorizing a lot of sentences or mastering grammar doesn't make you good at English.
Only by acquiring a language through reading and listening a lot can you be able to use it freely.

If you come into contact with it frequently through original texts or media, it will become internalized naturally.
More often than not, sentences come out of my mouth naturally, making me think, "Was I ever able to say something like that? Did I ever memorize something like that?"
In that sense, I would like to tell you that this grammar book must be used in conjunction with other learning methods, such as reading original texts, listening to audiobooks, and using phone English.
This way, you can develop balanced English skills.

By learning each step while engaging in other activities such as reading original texts, writing an English diary, and speaking English on the phone, you can quickly improve your skills in a short period of time.
If you're unsure how to choose original books, please refer to the "Reading Original Books" section in my book, "English Today Without Worries," which summarizes my English learning methods.
You should never become a slave to progress, thinking that you will quickly get over grammar.
Please calmly plan your study plan first!

You don't have to read every single book I recommend.
The most recommended way is to choose and read them yourself.
You can also ignore the list and go out into the wide ocean of search to find it yourself.
And you don't have to read the entire book once you choose it.
If it's too boring or full of arguments you don't agree with, feel free to close the book.
However, I believe that if you make an effort to secure time to read every day and consistently develop a good reading habit, it will be of great help not only in language study but also in life in the future.

Publisher's Review
You only speak that much English
The reason why I have no choice but to speak and write

Teacher Eugene points out that “there is no major problem in speaking English even if you don’t learn grammar perfectly,” and asks ourselves, “Have we been blaming grammar for the lack of improvement in English conversation skills up until now?”
Rather than pursuing shortcuts or methodologies to master English, Teacher Eugene recommends investing significant time in reading and writing.

Stephen D. Krashen, a world-renowned authority on foreign language acquisition theory who has been a guide in Eugene's English classes for a long time.
Professor Krashen said this in his book, “Krashen’s Reading Revolution”:
“Learning complex grammatical structures does not help you read or write.
Rather, mastering complex grammar is possible through reading.”

The reason we can only speak this much English and keep using similar sentences is not because we don't know grammar.
“This is because there are various problems, such as a lack of knowledge about the topic you want to talk about, a lack of familiarity with the culture of English-speaking countries, a failure to acquire natural expressions, or a failure to master the correct pronunciation or articulation of words.”

Teacher Eugene also had a hard time studying English.
When I was in middle school, it was too difficult to keep up with the English grammar classes I was taking at the academy.
Except for simple sentences, there were many errors in speaking and writing.
Even what I knew was wrong.
One day, I went to see a native English teacher and told him my worries.
After that, her English studies changed completely.
First, when looking at a grammar book, rather than memorizing the 'words' in the table, find the 'sentences' that contain those words and memorize them.
Second, studying grammar must be done in parallel with reading the original text.
Third, read the sentence out loud several times so that your eyes, ears, and mouth remember it.
The same goes for how you study this book.
Let's get used to English by reading the dialogues and examples in the book several times.
The author recommends studying this book alternately with one of your favorite original books.
In addition to the original text, it is even better to use audiobooks and phone English lessons in conjunction with other learning methods.

Key Points of the Correct Self-Study English Series
★ A grammar book focused on workbooks rather than theory
★ Grammar book for sustainable English study
★ Step-by-step grammar book that you can learn step by step

This book contains Teacher Eugene's old study methods.
We have excluded unnecessary grammatical terms and focused on learning expressions and examples that are actually used.
Not only that, but Teacher Eugene persistently explains concepts that would be explained simply in other grammar books until anyone can easily learn them.
We will learn articles through a chapter of the novel Animal Farm, explain the conditional sentence through an interview with the author and a part of the novel Wonder, which was also made into a movie and was very popular, explain the use of would through an interview with Bill Gates, and explain the use of can through a scene from Kim's Convenience.
It contains a large number of examples and practice problems that no other grammar book would have devoted this much space to, and it does not hesitate to have readers pick up a pencil and solve long practice problems.
The same content is explained again several times depending on the level of difficulty.
Teacher Eugene's devotion and affection for English learners proves once again that this book was created with them in mind.
The tips included alongside the text also help students overcome the English hurdles they have stumbled upon countless times.

This book will be a good guide for many English learners.
Of course, there will be times when you get tired from the long voyage.
Teacher Eugene leaves us with these last words:
It's a 'prescription' that was quite useful to me as well.
“Don’t be depressed because you watered the flowers today and they didn’t bloom tomorrow, and don’t give up on what you had to do that day.
Don't be swayed by today's 'feelings'.
Even if you don't see results right away, if you persevere and keep at it, you'll definitely see progress."
