No worries today, English
Description
Book Introduction
A comprehensive compilation of Eugene's 10-year experiment and English learning methods, trusted and learned by millions of English learners! "No Worries Today, English" is a compilation of English study methods discovered by Eugene, a teacher trusted and learned by millions of English learners, through 10 years of communication with students. When most students study English, they try very hard to fit themselves into a box by looking at books and media that tell them "good methods" that have worked for others. It's not uncommon to compare ourselves to others, and cruelly judge ourselves based on the goals set by others. We have been hurt for a long time, half voluntarily and half involuntarily, while studying English like that. That is precisely why Teacher Eugene decided to write this book. This book is not intended to be a stern warning, telling you to “do this,” “do that,” or “if you don’t, you’ll fail,” nor is it intended to shout, “Everyone, follow me,” because my method is the right one. Nor did we have any grand plans to help reduce the astronomical costs of private English education. I simply wanted to offer several paths to help individual learners reduce the daily stress that comes from learning English. Through this book, Teacher Eugene wanted to share the concerns, wounds, and success stories of the many students he had met. The book begins by addressing common concerns students have, followed by a detailed explanation of various learning methods. You can read the study methods first and then put them into practice right away, or you can check them in order from the beginning to see if they contain answers to questions you've always wondered about. You don't have to read it from beginning to end, so you can just select and use the information you want. Nothing in this book is an absolute law or rule. These are just my own suggestions, stories, and advice that I have found through communicating with students for 10 years. In particular, the study method section can be transformed in any form or order. When a lot of information is compiled and published in a book, we often mistakenly believe that the fact itself has given it authority. However, I hope you approach this book with a slightly more liberal perspective and attitude. I believe there is only one absolute rule in language learning: to practice consistently. Keeping this one rule in mind, I hope you will find a method that suits your current situation, your abilities, your personality, and your inclinations, and study happily. |

Into the book
If you learned English by watching dramas on Netflix, put the scripts in a jar.
Also, whenever I buy cosmetics directly from a foreign website, listen to English pop songs, or read English magazines, I put them in a jar.
If you keep putting things into the jar like this, it will eventually be full, right? If you keep putting things into a jar that's already full, it will overflow.
At this time, the overflow of the jar can be expressed as output.
--- p.24
Reading books in the original language on topics you are interested in will help you build your English knowledge and enable you to naturally talk about related topics in English.
Those who already have intermediate or higher skills can easily manage external events such as business trips or overseas forums by consistently focusing on light and short English study sessions of 30 minutes to an hour a day before going to bed.
--- p.37
Besides being boring, the TOEFL has another very important challenge.
It's a financial burden.
TOEFL textbooks cost an average of 20,000 to 50,000 won.
The total subjects are divided into 4, so if you purchase just one volume for each subject, it will already cost 100,000 won.
In addition, a mock exam costs about 50,000 won per session, and a real exam costs over 200,000 won.
So, I don't recommend TOEFL unless you absolutely have to submit it to a school or company.
--- p.60
To achieve something, only honest and consistent effort is necessary.
The reason dramatic events attract attention is because they are not that common.
Small, consistent efforts change the present little by little, rather than a single miracle.
So, rather than trying to find ways to motivate yourself, try taking action first.
Actions are sometimes followed by motivation.
If you keep waiting until you feel like studying, that moment may never come.
--- p.74
Many English learning methods seem different when you look at them alone.
Teachers will tell you various methods based on the students they have taught so far.
If you've studied English on your own and have built up a lot of skills, you'll probably share various study methods, such as the academies you've attended, the lectures you've taken, and the methods you've personally implemented.
But you don't have to listen to all of these methods.
Learners are free to choose any method.
One method is not absolutely superior or inferior to another.
It's just different.
So, no matter which method you choose, as long as you can have fun and stick with it, you will improve your English skills.
--- p.79
The final reason why speed reading is difficult is the lack of background knowledge.
If you lack background knowledge, you may have difficulty understanding even words you know and writing in a familiar style.
If you know nothing about American tax policy, it's difficult to understand the author's intent when reading an editorial about it.
If you have trouble understanding the content, you will read the same sentence over and over again.
If the text requires a lot of background knowledge and has difficult vocabulary and expressions, you may not be able to understand the content even after reading halfway through the text, so you may have to go back to the first sentence.
In cases like this, speed reading becomes difficult.
--- p.138
When you first start developing study habits, you don't need to worry too much about things like, "Should I shadow when watching a drama?", "Should I watch it with English subtitles or without subtitles?", or "Which Audible source book should I choose?"
Just follow your heart, do what you want to do.
If I want to shadow, I do, and I turn on the subtitles I want to watch.
You can choose the original book with a cover you like and an author you like.
Don't worry too much about whether the author's writing style is excellent or whether the book has an award-winning history.
It's best to start small, small, and simple.

Publisher's Review
What Teacher Eugene has learned over 10 years with his students
“Reading original texts, studying audiobooks, reading carefully and quickly, writing, copying, shadowing, speaking, etc.
“A total of 15 English study roadmaps!”
10 Years of Records, Q&A
This chapter contains a selection of questions that Teacher Eugene frequently receives from students.
I covered everything from students I met in offline classes to those I consulted with online via email, messages, and comments, down to the most trivial questions, as much as space allowed.
When I look at students' questions, sometimes it feels like there is an absolute method to learning English.
The moment you believe that there are absolute methods or rules for learning a language, you become trapped in limited rules.
Of course, there are basic rules for achieving any goal.
For example, if you are on a diet, you cannot lose weight no matter what method you use if you consume more calories than you burn by moving your body.
It is an immutable law of physics.
Even when learning a language like English, there are absolute rules.
You can't speak a language without reading and listening a lot.
But there are no other rules besides this one.
So, although this chapter is called Q&A, it is not actually a space to provide answers to students' questions.
Rather, it is a space where people who have been teaching, reading, listening, speaking, and writing English for a relatively long time can think about questions together and share their thoughts.
A 10-Year Experiment: A Comprehensive Guide to Learning English
Teacher Eugene introduced various English learning methods that he has practiced with his students over the past 10 years.
We've completely eliminated countless methods that have failed, and collected only the valuable data that has delivered great results to many students.
There are a total of 15 methods included.
You don't have to practice all of these methods, and you don't have to follow every single one of them literally.
What makes language learning particularly difficult is that there is no set formula.
Learning English doesn't have a set algorithm that says, "Read this book, read that book, listen to this, practice that, and you'll be able to speak English."
Moreover, results vary depending on various factors such as innate personality, learning tendencies, concentration, language skills, and perseverance.
In short, you can't know exactly what method to use to get the results you want until you try it yourself.
In this situation, only 'experimentation' really makes sense.
Your preferred method may vary depending on your current skills, situation, and personal preferences, so please refer to Experiments A through O to create a customized study method.
