Into the book
It seemed as if his figure had disappeared towards the springboard, but then he suddenly leaped up, cutting through the wind.
At that moment, Yuko thought, "This is strange."
It wasn't the leaps and bounds we usually see from him.
Of course, as an amateur, I cannot evaluate the superiority of a jump, so this is simply a gut feeling.
And that intuition was right.
He landed uncharacteristically ugly and slid down, curled up in pain.
And before the speed could slow down enough, it rolled roughly, creating a white blizzard.
The ski board, blue jumpsuit, and white snow all tangled together, and then finally stopped.
“Nirei!”
Yuko ran out screaming without realizing it.
The only sound in the stadium was the sound of the wind.

What shook the investigation headquarters in an instant was a single express letter.
To the Sapporo Nishi Police Station Nirei Murder Investigation Headquarters.
On the front of the white envelope it said:
The writing was angular, as if it had been cut with a knife.
There was no sender's name.
The stamp was postmarked the previous afternoon.
The letter paper was plain with vertical lines.
There, too, were rows of carefully crafted, angular letters.
When Inspector Kawano announced the contents, there was an uproar of excitement among the investigators present.

The contents of the letter were as follows:
'The person who killed Akira Nirei is Coach Minegishi of the Hara Industrial Ski Jumping Team.
Arrest him immediately.'

When I removed the plastic tape, I saw a plastic bag inside.
Minegishi put his finger in and took it out.
There was a small, thin bottle with the remaining capsules in it.
The white powder you see in the bottle is aconitine.
Minegishi looked intently at the bottle containing the poison.
It's only a handful, but it's enough to kill several people.
But now there was only one person he had to kill.
I will kill you and make it look like suicide.
I will kill him by pretending to be the culprit who killed Nirei.

In an instant, a vast space unfolded before my eyes.
Colorful colors are also included in it.
But it soon turned into a pure white world.
Sawamura didn't know if he had actually seen the white world.
Maybe my mind just went blank.
No, it must be something like that.
0 points A few seconds of ecstasy… … .
Waking up there is just before landing.
If you suddenly realize it, you will see a landing hill there.
The landing surface becomes a huge white wall and rushes towards the jumper.
The final decision is whether you see it as a wall and fear it, or whether you believe it is a being that accepts you.

Sugi sent a signal to Sho, who was waiting on one side of the lab.
The knight standing next to the show pressed the switch on the control panel right next to it, and the electric sound rang again and the show's body began to slowly rise.
A crane installed on the ceiling was used to lift his body.
The show featured roller skis on his feet and a helmet on his head.
The show, lifted by a crane, landed on a diagonally inclined slide section.
He leaned against the railing beside him with his hand.
“Then, let me first answer Mr. Miyoshi’s question.
“Turn on the belt.”
As Sugie's words turned on, the belt under Sho's feet began to slowly move backwards.
The speed gradually increased, and after a while, the lamp installed diagonally in front of the show's location blinked.
At the same time, the show took its hands off the railing and assumed a crouching position as if going down the approach.

This novel depicts the desire to overcome human physical limitations and the madness toward victory, using ski jumping, known as the 'flower of winter sports', as its subject.
Drawing on a broad knowledge of sports and science, it presents surprising tricks and reversals, while also posing the question: "Is a victory that sacrifices humanity more valuable than a defeat that preserves humanity?"
『Join Plan』, which is being published for the first time in Korea in the field of modern literature, was translated by Yang Yun-ok, who has been translating Higashino Keigo's major works into Korean for 15 years since 2007.

“He gave up his human heart to become a bird.”
The wingless human desire to fly higher and further
The bizarre "Join Plan" born from obsession and madness toward the limit

Akira Nirei, a twenty-two-year-old ski jumper known as the "Bird Man," dies mysteriously during a training camp.
And a few days later, a tip came to the police anonymously.
'The culprit is Coach Minegishi of the ski jumping team.
Arrest him immediately.' Minegishi vehemently denies the charges, but is arrested as a murder suspect, leaving his fellow players and staff in shock.
As the investigation stalls due to the failure to find a motive for the murder and decisive evidence, Minegishi begins his own investigation in the detention center to find out who the detective who pointed him out, that is, the informer...
Now, the horrific 'plan' hidden behind Nirey's murder is slowly being revealed.

A story that far surpasses the K-point of imagination
In "Join Plan," a detective with sharp intuition and a criminal defending himself are locked in a tense confrontation surrounding the death of a genius athlete who boasted overwhelming skills. The tension is heightened by the three-dimensional depiction of the subtle psychology and conflicts of fellow athletes, who are calculating their own advantages and disadvantages in the absence of the absolute number one, as well as Sawamura, who has been pushed aside by Nirei and has been unable to avoid being the perennial number two; Sho Sugie, who previously went unnoticed but who suddenly rises as a new powerhouse after Nirei's death by showing off jumps just like him; and the conflicts between fellow athletes, who are engaged in a war of nerves as they calculate their own advantages and disadvantages.
Above all, the greatest appeal of this book is that, unlike typical mystery novels, it doesn't end with simply finding the culprit.
The identity of the person who poisoned Nirei is revealed relatively early on.
But the real story starts here.
Why did the coach, who cared more for Nirei than anyone else, kill him? How could he poison him without arousing suspicion? And who was the informant who exposed the killer? This novel unravels three mysteries from two perspectives: the police investigating the motive for the murder and the perpetrator, who tracks down the informant and retrace the steps of the crime, solving the mystery from both perspectives.
Then, when it reaches the ending, all the conflicts and secrets surrounding the case explode at once, presenting a shocking twist that goes far beyond the K point (critical point) of imagination.

"Join Plan" heralds the birth of a "mystery king" by fully displaying the best of what a new writer can do, from the exquisite harmony of science and mystery, to the thrilling speed and twists of racing across a pristine snowy field, to the profound insight into human nature and the essence of sports, which constantly challenge their limits.
This book is a must-read for readers who love Keigo Higashino's mysteries.
