Publisher's Review
Na Tae-ju, the poet of wild flowers
A poem inspired by a painting by 94-year-old Kim Du-yeop

“Just Like Now” is a collection of poems written by poet Na Tae-ju, who was inspired by the paintings of 94-year-old painter Kim Du-yeop.
Grandmother Kim Du-yeop attracted media attention in May 2021 when she published the illustrated essay, “I am Grandmother Kim Du-yeop, who draws.”
The relationship between these two people began when poet Na Tae-ju wrote a recommendation for Grandma Kim Du-yeop's book.
Poet Na Tae-ju expressed his feeling when he first saw Grandma Kim Du-yeop's painting as, "I want to shout 'Come, come, come,' all the way to the end of the bookshelf."
Wow, an exclamation.
Isn't that admiration what gave birth to this poetry collection?
The poet appeared on [You Quiz on the Block] last April and said this about his feelings about writing poetry.
“It’s a little crazy.
You said I was crazy.
(…) Originally, writing poetry was done in a state of confusion.
(…) I’m not writing this in my right mind, but when I’m a little bit off track.
“I see things I don’t usually see and hear things I don’t usually hear.” That was exactly how poet Na Tae-joo felt when he saw Grandma Kim Du-yeop’s painting.

“My heart started pounding as soon as I saw the picture.
A picture that makes your heart flutter.
Grandma Kim Du-yeop's painting was just like that.
“Thrill is life, love, and dreams.”

This is the sentiment expressed by poet Na Tae-ju in the preface of the book.
A heart that keeps getting excited.
Poet Na Tae-ju wrote poetry with a pounding heart.
Poetry came to him like a bolt from the blue.
As soon as I saw the picture, my heart fluttered, and it must have been because I was able to see and hear things I had never seen or heard before.
Grandmother Kim Du-yeop said the following in the preface as if sending a reply to poet Na Tae-ju:

“I was really amazed when I saw my painting and read the poem written by poet Na Tae-ju.
I just drew what was in my head, and I was amazed, thinking, "Ah, so this is what poets feel, so this is how they write poetry."
“I never knew my paintings could become poetry.”

This poetry collection includes 76 poems, including 31 poems written by poet Na Tae-ju inspired by Grandma Kim Du-yeop's paintings, as well as new and unpublished poems, and 75 paintings by Grandma Kim Du-yeop.

Young and old, somewhere in between
Comfort and hope from two adults to you!

Poet Na Tae-ju is a poet who needs no introduction.
‘Poet Na Tae-joo’ is enough.
He is 77 years old this year and has written over 5,000 pages of poetry over the past 50 years since his literary debut in 1971 with “Under the Bamboo Grove.”
A person who writes poetry as if he is breathing, whose life itself is 'poetry'.
Grandmother Kim Du-yeop is a 94-year-old grandmother painter who received praise for her first book from poet Na Tae-ju, nun Lee Hae-in, actress Choi Hwa-jeong, writer Noh Hee-kyung, and professor Kim Chang-ok.
He made his name known by appearing in the KBS [Human Theater] episode 'Mother's Painting' in July 2019, and has held several exhibitions, including his first Seoul exhibition in May 2021.
Na Tae-joo and Kim Du-yeop.
What kind of world would a life of 171 years have drawn?
The world they created is like a fairy tale.
It resembles a child.
Simple yet gorgeous.
It depicts an ordinary life that is like a hamster wheel, but it is dazzlingly beautiful.
How have these two adults lived so far that their perspective on the world and their hearts remain so ageless and beautiful?
Although it is easy to become dull after living for nearly 100 years, his brushwork and poetry are filled with curiosity and excitement about people and the world.
《Just Like Now》 is a blessing to everyone living 'today'.
Don't chase after big things, but embrace and love what's around you first.
Happiness is right here, right next to me.
Poet Na Tae-ju recites it in poetry, and grandmother Kim Du-yeop shows it in pictures.

The younger generation still struggles today under the world's standards.
The older generation is feeling discouraged, wondering if this is the reward for their hard work.
Na Tae-joo and Kim Du-yeop speak to them.
“I hope you live just as righteously and beautifully as you do now.” Without pressuring you to become something, do something, or achieve something, I just hope you live just as righteously and beautifully as you do now.
With that in mind, poet Na Tae-ju personally wrote the title of the cover, “Just like now.”

Flowers that bloom after a long wait are more splendid!
The beautiful harmony of two adults who never grow old

Poet Na Tae-ju's poetry is full of affection and excitement.
A warm and bright painting by Grandma Kim Du-yeop.
But it could be said that the life they lived was the exact opposite of their work.
Poet Na Tae-ju became a poet by writing poems about being abandoned by a loved one.
He became famous as the 'Poet of Wildflowers' 30 years after his debut.
Although no one knew, I loved writing poetry and wrote poetry my whole life.
Grandmother Kim Du-yeop began painting at the late age of 83, as her nickname, “Grandmother Who Paints,” suggests.
Until then, I had raised my children without even having time to sit at my desk, and I had done everything I could to make a living.
Born in Osaka during the Japanese colonial period, she got married without even knowing how to read Korean, and her married life with her husband was almost entirely unhappy.

Poet Na Tae-ju's life was a love letter written alone, and grandmother Kim Du-yeop's life was closer to a black-and-white photograph.
But they never gave up on their lives, their hopes, their excitement.
Even in a life that did not go as planned, I lived steadfastly.
I soothed my worn-out heart every night and lived the next morning as if a new life had bloomed.
I felt happy when I felt the wind, I felt pretty when I saw flowers, and my heart fluttered when I saw lovers on the street.
They had already given so much of their hearts to the world, and so the fingerprints on their hearts should have worn away, but even at the ages of 77 and 94, they were still excited when they looked at each other's poems and paintings.
This book is a story about two adults who are old but never grow old.
The lives of two people are more precious and brilliant because they unfolded late.
A day when everyday life is boring, a day when nothing comes easy, a day when it feels lonely because it feels like the main character of the world is somewhere else.
Let's follow the gaze of two adults.
There will be excitement at the end, and excitement is the life, love, and dream of us all.
