Into the book
(Colleagues) are not people who just sit back and wait for something to happen and then decide what attitude to take going forward.
They make their own decisions and act accordingly, even if it means taking risks.

--- p.34

Trust your intuition, but don't be swayed by what others say.
People always judge others based on their own limitations, and their opinions are often filled with prejudice and fear.

--- p.38

Hang out with people who are as flexible as the wood that makes the bow and who can understand the signs on the road.
People who know how to change direction without hesitation when they encounter an insurmountable obstacle or see a better opportunity.

--- p.41

An arrow once fired does not return.
Therefore, if the movement leading up to the launch was incorrect and inaccurate, it is better to stop the movement in the middle rather than firing haphazardly because the bow is fully drawn and the target is in front.

--- p.55

But when you're just afraid of making a mistake and you're stiff, don't hesitate and shoot.
If you have performed the correct movement, spread your hands and release the protest.
Even if your arrow misses the target, you will learn to aim better next time.

--- p.56

If you see the target as an enemy, you may hit it, but nothing will improve inside you.
You'll spend your life trying to get your arrows into the center of a paper or wooden target, and that's a very futile endeavor.

--- p.62

Peace comes from the heart.
Although the mind is often plagued by anxiety, it also knows that it can remain in optimal condition by maintaining the correct posture.

--- p.69

The act of shooting something far away paradoxically brings the archer back to himself and forces him to confront his ego.

--- p.103

After much training, there comes a moment when you no longer have to be conscious of your actions.
From then on, the archer becomes his own bow, arrow, and target.
--- p.117

Paulo Coelho once again tells us more than just a story.
His books contain the true rules of life.

Shooting an arrow is not simply about hitting an empty target.
It's about trying to see the world through the bow.

The legendary archer 'Jin' tells us
One life truth contained in the thirteen themes of archery.

The story of 'Archer' begins when a foreigner who has reached the pinnacle of archery travels a long way to find the legendary archer 'Jin'.
The boy is startled by the stranger's words that he has come to have an archery match with Jin.
Because Jin was now living as a nameless carpenter, no one had ever even seen him hold a bow in his hand.
The stranger challenges Jin and insists on making his current reputation his own, and the boy takes him to Jin's woodworking shop.
Jin, facing the stranger, continues his carpentry work with a stiff face, but eventually accepts the challenge after the stranger persuades him that he “just wants to prove to himself that I have reached the realm of perfection after long training.”

The stranger takes a stable stance to demonstrate his archery skills first, then slowly draws the bow.
And then, “for a moment that seemed to last forever, the archer and the bow stood motionless,” and then the arrow was fired.
The boy looked at the point where the arrow was flying, but saw nothing, and the arrow seemed to disappear from his sight completely before reappearing in the distance.
The arrow fell to the ground, having pierced a small cherry fruit at a distance of 40 meters.

When it was Jin's turn, he borrowed an arrow from the stranger and walked towards the mountain without saying a word.
After walking for about an hour, he arrived at the edge of a cliff and went to the middle of a swaying bridge where the rope was frayed and seemed ready to break at any moment.
He hits a peach from 20 meters away.
And then he returns to the rock and suggests to the stranger that he do the same.
The stranger freezes at the sight of the steep cliff below his feet.
Although he was a skilled shooter who could hit a cherry much smaller than a peach from a great distance, the arrow missed the peach tree.

“You have the skills, the grace, and the attitude,” Jin said.
“You are skilled in archery and know how to handle a bow, but you have not learned how to control your mind.
When things are going well, you shoot well, but when things get tough, you miss the target.
An archer cannot always choose the battlefield.
So, start practicing again and prepare for difficult situations.
Keep practicing archery.
Because it is a path that must be taken throughout one's life.
“Remember, there is a big difference between shooting an arrow accurately and shooting with a calm mind.” (p. 23)

Through their duel, Jin teaches the stranger a lesson more important than mere technical skills.
A young boy who has been watching this entire process asks Jin to teach him archery, and asks why he became a master archer and put down his bow to become a carpenter.
During the short time back at the woodshop, Jin teaches the boy the fundamentals of archery: focus, posture, composure, flexibility, and repetition.
Excluding the prologue and epilogue chapters, Jin's story, which spans thirteen chapters including Companions, Bows, Arrows, Targets, and Postures, contains a message that goes beyond archery.
Why did Jin, the best archer, give up his bow and live as a carpenter?
What was the crucial difference between Yi Bang-in and Jin, who thought they had already reached a high level of archery?
“Each arrow shot flies in a different shape.
“If you shoot a thousand arrows, each one will trace a different trajectory.” (Page 125) Readers of this book will be able to gain numerous insights through its rich allegories and metaphors.
