Book Introduction
Professor Kyung-chul Joo explores Dutch society, culture, and history with "The History of Tiresias"! This year marks the 350th anniversary of Hamel's shipwreck.
Professor Joo Kyung-chul presents this country, which has become so familiar to us as the land of windmills, tulips, and Rembrandt, and now the land of Hiddink, in an interesting and humorous way, based on his own experiences.
Let's take a step into the Netherlands, a small but strong model of a nation where all freedoms, including thought, action, sex, homosexuality, and even euthanasia, coexist proudly.

Into the book
If you travel in the Netherlands, you will quickly feel the kindness of the people.
These people seem to know nothing about fighting.
But that is only a tourist's opinion.
If you live with these people for more than a year, you will realize that their attitude is different from their appearance.
It's a bit odd to put it this way, but it's rare to find people who yell at each other as much as these people do.
It means that rather than being aggressive or fond of fighting, they are accustomed to expressing their thoughts and discussing them with others.
It may be called 'protest', but it has also brought about the unique cultural phenomenon of this country called 'overleg', which includes various meanings such as 'discussion', 'complaint', 'negotiation', 'consideration', etc.
It would be no exaggeration to call the cultural characteristics of this country a 'culture of protest and complaint.'
Every human being is born with inalienable rights, but one of them is the right to complain.
Everyone, please speak up!
A good example of this is the incredibly long meeting times.
A successful meeting means that everyone present has expressed their opinions without reservation.
Until then, it's like the meeting isn't over.
This is the famous (or infamous) Overlech.
If you call a department and they tell you they are currently overhauling, you are 'over the line'.
On this day, it is better to give up on trying to find that person.
