His father was murdered, right after he announced his marriage.
Is the moment you feel happy the beginning of tragedy? Mayo, who had just landed a job at a major corporation and was preparing for her dream wedding with her fiancé,
After receiving a call from the police station, she heads home.
The phone call with my father, who said that now all that was left was for me to be happy, ended up being the last one I ever spoke to in my life.
The police discover signs of strangulation on the father's body and immediately convert it into a murder case, launching a large-scale investigation.
A murder in a quiet village without even a name, and since the father was a respected teacher in the entire village, the whole village was in an uproar.
Without even a moment to grieve over the loss of his father, he is cooperating with the crime scene investigation in every corner of his hometown house when a man shouts strangely among the investigators wearing masks due to the coronavirus.
The man who got angry at her for entering someone else's house without permission turned out to be Mayo's uncle, Takeshi.
Takeshi was a famous magician in America.
Mayo was born and we only met twice.
Why did he show up after ten years without any contact? Of all days, the day after my father was murdered.

Into the book
I was so busy preparing that I didn't have time to calmly think about the situation.
But as I gazed at the scenery of my hometown like this, something incredible began to become a reality and gradually came crashing down on me.
Since there weren't many intersections, waiting at the traffic lights wasn't long.
We soon arrived in front of the police station.
I walked to the front entrance, dragging my suitcase.
The police station was an old three-story building, but it didn't feel particularly intimidating.
If it weren't for the police cars parked in the uselessly large parking lot, I would have mistaken it for a community center (a Japanese lifelong education facility).
Come to think of it, this was my first time visiting this police station.
I told the young uniformed officer standing at the entrance what I had come for.
I thought he probably wouldn't know, but surprisingly, the officer nodded.
“I heard the story.
“Come this way.”

“You said you didn’t send the photos anywhere else because it would be embarrassing if you got caught?” Miyo asked, covering her mouth with a towel from the room.
“Hiding one’s own pattern is common sense for entertainers,” Takeshi answered, manipulating his smartphone.
“How are you feeling?” “I’m fine now.
“I’m sorry.” Mayo was in Takeshi’s room after he finished checking in.
The structure was the same.
“I will tell you once more that I will do my utmost to uncover the truth. I will prioritize that under any circumstances and will never hesitate or run away.
“I can swear to you,” Takeshi asked, looking at Mayo with sharp, intense eyes.
I felt like I would lose all my energy if I let my guard down even for a little bit.
I swear.
Mayo said, raising his right hand.
“I won’t run away anymore.”

“Now.” Takeshi paused the video and pointed to the screen.
At the tip of his finger was a man standing right next to the tray.
Even though he was wearing a mask, I knew who he was right away.
It was a young detective named Maeda who had called Kogure earlier at Takeshi's request.
“Focus on your left hand.” Takeshi said that and pressed the play button again.
As he said, Maeda's left hand moved.
He touched the back of his ear, wondering if the mask was uncomfortable, and then lowered his hand.
“Watch Maeda’s movements carefully.” Then Takeshi quickly turned around.

“But if what you just said is true, then it would explain why Makihara’s name was on the ‘Maeda List.’” If Eiichi had contacted Makihara, there would definitely be traces of it on his smartphone.
Takeshi rested his arms on the table and interlocked his hands.
“It is certain that Moriwaki Atsumi’s visit to Makihara was related to some kind of financial issue.
It's probably something to do with my father's bank account.
But there's no guarantee that it'll be just a simple request for financial aid.
"More complicated financial matters have arisen, and my brother might be involved in them. Now is not the time to be clapping and rejoicing." Mayo straightened her back.
“It might be related to the incident.” “Unfortunately, there is no reason to rule out that possibility.
Gogure also said it.
“It’s one of the important clues.” Mayo felt goosebumps all over her body as she looked at Takeshi’s sharp gaze.

Publisher's Review
So, shall we begin our revenge?
The Find the Real Culprit Alumni Reunion Held at the Teacher's Funeral

I was contemplating attending my middle school reunion, which was my first in 16 years.
However, the sudden death of the father turns the class reunion into a funeral, and the police are unable to even guess the suspect, leaving the case cold.
Mayo, as a student, meets her father's disciples and classmates who are now suspects one by one.
Haraguchi, the bar owner who first discovered his murdered father; Kokonoe, who still looks as beautiful as she did in middle school; Sugishita, who made a fortune in the internet business; and Kugimiya, who became a popular writer and a hero in his hometown… As it turns out, each of them had met or was planning to meet their fathers for their own reasons.

Among the classmates who ask vague questions and watch Mayo's reaction, everyone is suspicious of each other.
As time passes and no clues are found, the investigation continues to face difficulties.
Meanwhile, her uncle Takeshi engages in a subtle war of nerves with the investigators, shocking those around him, and Mayo gradually bonds with her uncle and sets out to find a solution to the case on her own.
As the mystery unfolds, what is the true nature of the uncle revealed? The daring investigation continues, with illegal recordings and even fake testimonies... Will this method truly lead to the true culprit?

The pinnacle of Keigo Higashino's thrillers!
The beginning of a new mystery that vividly captures the post-COVID reality.

Keigo Higashino is a well-known writer who leaves a strong impression by vividly reflecting aspects of the real world in his novels.
This work also reveals the COVID-19 era more clearly than any other mystery thriller, utilizing it as material throughout the work.
The unpredictable pandemic situation adds to the mysterious atmosphere and heightens the tension of the murder mystery.
What if we tried a new way to piece together the puzzle of the case? This novel approach from a bestselling mystery novelist of 35 years is contained in the opening book of the "Black Showman" series.
Black Showman solves cases based on daring evidence collection that goes beyond scientific investigation.
In doing so, each character reveals to the readers big and small secrets they did not want to know.
Like a magician planning a show, the narrative quickly disappears into its 29 pages, swaying the reader's gaze from the beginning of the murder case to the end, as if possessed by magic, until the real culprit is found.

Additionally, this book attracts attention for its collaboration with famous domestic authors who have been fans of the author.
A webtoon trailer for Korean readers will be produced in collaboration with Kim Yong-ki, author of “Strangers from Hell” and “The End of a Relationship,” and will be distributed online.
It is said that Keigo Higashino himself watched the production of the work with great interest, as he planned the work depicted in the work with illustrator Kwon Seo-young as a 'book within a book'.
Even in the Korean publishing market, the description of author Keigo Higashino as the "King of Mystery" is not at all out of place, and for his fans, this series will be a new beginning that will satisfy the disappointment felt by the absence of full-length mystery novels.
