A word from MD
Can humanity win the war against viruses?
A novel by Kim Jin-myeong that tells the story of those fighting an unknown virus in the age of pandemic.
The author depicts the process of discovering the deadly virus X through the efforts of a Korean-American lobbyist and a Korean pathologist, and presents the various aspects of humanity facing the war against viruses in an interesting way.

Itabooks published the novel 『Virus X』 by author Jinmyeong Kim.
Medical scientists have named the worst virus that will wipe out all of humanity as soon as it appears as X. In this novel, the author warns of the imminent emergence of Virus X by citing the example of avian influenza, which has a mortality rate of as high as 59%, that broke out in Southeast Asia in 2003 and is still dormant.
The author also exposes the fact that the entire world is rushing to develop a single COVID-19 vaccine, and strongly criticizes the foolishness of humanity, which is engaged in a life-or-death battle with the virus, for trying to fight the virus only within its own body, and presents a groundbreaking alternative.

Why must humans fight viruses only within their bodies?
I would like to raise this question.
Viruses are monsters that are difficult to deal with inside the body, but outside the body, they can be killed by soapy water or left alone, so the war against viruses must focus on how to recognize and avoid viruses outside the body.
-From the author's note-

This novel shows the process of discovering the virus X that suddenly appeared one day through the efforts of Lee Jeong-han, a Korean-American lobbyist, and Jo Yeon-su, a Korean pathologist, and allows readers to fully understand the world of viruses in an easy and fun way.
It also presents a completely new way for humanity to be completely freed from viruses by recognizing them from outside the body using semiconductor and laser technology, and it persuasively argues that the war against viruses should not be left solely to doctors and biologists, but that the information and communications industry should step in.

In his “Author’s Note,” Kim Jin-myeong states, “A virus is nothing more than about 30,000 bytes of data consisting of four types of bases lined up in a single line.” He adds, “With current information and communication technology, we can easily recognize viruses outside the body, so I wrote this article with the strong conviction that if we can just achieve this shift in perception, we can easily win the war against viruses.”
Also, “Through this book, I want to share with readers the awareness of the path forward for humanity.
Deadly viruses are emerging in concentrated areas exposed to unclean environments.
COVID-19 has clearly shown us how a virus can spread across the globe in an instant, no matter where it originates.
Therefore, selfish behavior that ignores the environment of poor regions and only seeks our own safety will not only fail to avoid danger, but will also lead to the collapse of human civilization and the loss of humanity.
“The pandemic is the final milestone that shows that the only way forward for humanity is to walk alongside the weak,” he says.

Into the book
“So, COVID-19 is….” Jeonghan paused for a moment without finishing his sentence.
His intense gaze lingered for a moment on Yeon-su's eyes, which were filled with frustration and boredom, before flying far away into the sky.
“It’s a 30,000 byte USB.” The moment Jeonghan’s voice left Yeonsu’s ears, leaving behind the incongruous word “USB,” a flash of lightning struck Yeonsu’s mind and she felt a shiver run through her.
What! The coronavirus is a 30,000-byte USB drive.
then.
“So, we can read and conquer it with semiconductors.”
--- p.22

“The core idea I proposed in my essay is to break down the stereotypes we have had so far in the war against the virus.
Instead of looking at the COVID-19 virus, which the whole world is afraid of, from a biomedical perspective, let's look at it as a 30,000-byte piece of data.
As you all know, COVID-19 has exactly 29,903 bases.
My argument is that if we memorize this base sequence on a semiconductor and connect it to a sensor, we can detect the COVID-19 virus outside the body before it enters the human body.”
--- p.53

Yeonsu had no idea how to write the report.
A seizure of a magnitude never before reported.
Considering that all the infected sheep died without exception, it was the birth of a huge disease, and since it contained the motif of avian influenza, there was an extremely high possibility that it had already become a zoonotic disease or would spread to humans in the future.
If this were to spread, it would undoubtedly trigger a global pandemic on a scale incomparable to COVID-19, and so the report had to be written urgently.
However, I could not find any conditions that could be used to format a scientific report.
Now that we have established a genetic model, we can quickly conduct animal testing, but there is no way to find a live virus.

--- p.233

Therefore, selfish behavior that ignores the environment of poor regions and only seeks our own safety will not only fail to avoid danger, but will also lead to the collapse of human civilization and the loss of humanity.
The pandemic is the final milestone, indicating that humanity's only path forward is to stand alongside the vulnerable.
--- p.260

“If you’re outside your body, you don’t even have to fight the virus.
Just avoid it and that's it.
If a virus cannot quickly parasitize itself in the body, it will soon die.
If people don't give their bodies, that's it.
But since they don't know if there is a virus or not, they run around wildly and become food for themselves, thereby helping to grow a lot of viruses.
“Viruses must be dealt with with semiconductors, not vaccines.”
